Re: Financial topics

From the NY Fed. Looks to me like ppl are about down to credit for food. This hardly makes me think they are ready to go out and spend, spend, spend. I do volunteer work for the elderly and people on disability. It is mind boggling how many are hungry. I also do surveys in the local community to ga...

Re: Financial topics

Still, when the dollar goes the world will be in pain. However, the first to leave will have the least pain. In this situation leaving could happen fast. Therefore, when the dollar goes there is no escaping the pain. The degree of pain is relative and unpredictable. That is the incentive to keep th...

Re: Financial topics

Yes, commodities is "my game" and clearly a bubble is forming / has formed in commodities. [...] My advice to everyone who reads this blog is " don't get in front of this market ". Its just too dangerous. Either there is a bubble in gold and commodities or the dollar is headed for serious inflation...

Re: Financial topics

The dollar value of the S&P or Dow Jones now can not really be compared to what it was 4 years ago because dollars can not buy as much rice, wheat, copper, etc. as they did back then. It's logical to me that someone may want to trade their dollars for some gold or some wheat, given what is happenin...

Re: Financial topics

On the very short term the Fed is able to set the market rate. But on longer term, like 5 year, 10 year, 30 year, they are just another bidder in the market. When they bid up the price of bonds they are lowering the effective interest rate, not increasing it. But since they are buying with newly pr...

Re: Financial topics

I am not a student of the fed. So let me get this staight. The fed announces QE2 then prints money and sets the market rate at auction (buys its' bonds at a discount). The fed controls the printer and the auction house? So can it be said that the fed is intentionally increasing the market rate? On t...

Re: Financial topics

I need to get a clarification on this issue. Please correct me. The Fed is keeping the prime rate at 0%-.25%. The stated rate for the 10 year bond is approximately 2.58%. The fed and the market are buying (bidding down) 10 year bonds at auction at lower than face value resulting in yields in excess ...

Re: Financial topics

I have been looking for a different banking and investment relationship. As a result I have been dealing with the issue of historical market returns when I discuss my risk aversion and time horizons. Since I have a captive audience when I meet with an FA, I like to walk them through the Dow when the...

Re: Welcome to the Generational Dynamics Forum!

Hello everyone, I was getting myself up to speed on the US$ when I came upon this site. Very enlightening. I am Boomer (55). Since health care seems to be the last post, about nine years ago, I merged my practice as a Certified Pubic Accountant to take care of my elderly parents. As an only child it...
