The Generational Dynamics forum has repeatedly become unavailable for
periods ranging from a minute to half an hour for several days now.

I have no control over this. The forum is hosted by Newtek Web
Hosting, and they've apparently been having a lot of problems lately.
As far as I can tell, they seem to be having a lot of problems with
the MySql database used by the forum.

If you have trouble accessing the forum, either to read the messages
or to post a message, then all I can suggest is to try again a few
minutes later.

** 28-Jun-2019 Generational Dynamics forum outage

At 11 pm ET on Thursday evening, forum web site host Newtek sent me a
message saying that the web site would go down for one or two hours.

Unfortunately, the period of down time extended to over 14 hours.

In addition, the data base was restored to a backup made several hours
earlier. This means that if you posted something on Thursday evening
(ET), then you may have to repost it.

I apologize for the inconvenience.

** 22-Mar-2020 Generational Dynamics forum outage

As happens from time to time, Newtek Web Hosting goes through periods
of server problems. This has been going on for several days, and is
continuing sporadically.

I dread these situations because I'm a nobody and the only way I can
get these problems fixed is to spend hours on hold trying to reach
their customer service, and then more time explaining what a forum is,
etc. It's a nightmare.

So I'm sorry for the inconvenience and let's hope that they get their
frigging systems straightened out.

** 22-Mar-2020 World View: Generational Dynamics forum sql errors

I got through to Newtek technical support. It was a little easier
this time, because even though I was on hold for half an hour, at least
he knew what a forum was.

Anyway, he said that they've been having network problems that caused
most of connection reset problems the last couple of days. He said
that they've cleared the network problems, but there are some
vestigial issues that are causing timing errors that are resulting in
the mysql "Too many connections" errors that everyone has been seeing.

He claims that they're finishing up with the vestigial network problems,
and that the mysql error should disappear within a couple of hours.

Crossed fingers.

You have not updated the State of the World in almost four years. Isn’t it about time, especially with Covid and the economy?
