hmmm interesting comment, is it due to experience?
Being a forum administrator is not the glamorous role that it appears
to be. I get bots, trolls and spam almost every day. If I did
nothing, then the forum would be filled with a lot of crap -- ads for
viagra, uggs, and so forth. About a year ago, I enabled the Captcha
feature, and that cut the amount of spam in half. In the case of
aleeza/sara, "she" is on my watch list, and if "she" doesn't post
anything more in the next week or so, then I'll ban "her", so she
can't change her signature field into an ad, which I have no easy way
of detecting. The same is true of Endrio and Endrio143 in other
threads.
Hmmm interesting

Question -- Since I am not the most internet and computer savvy. What is the difference between a forum and a site where a person can contact the holder of the site. I ask because I have recently started a site promoting my work as an artist, and have not yet run into problems. However I find it interesting that about 1/3 of my hits are from Russia, not that it does me any good but one has to get out there.

Hope you had a pleasant holiday,

cheers

It all a troll can do is reach the holder of the site, he's not going
to bother because that's only one person, and not worth the time and
trouble. Trolls want to reach as many people as possible, and that
requires something like a forum.

Thanks, Guess I wont start a forum, I have enough to do and try to keep things as simple as possible ,but that doesn't always work.

Thanks, again

If that's what you really want to do, I can set up a guest section for
you in this forum, similar in appearance to the "Administration"
section.

Another possibility is to use a hosting service. They're really quite
inexpensive, since all they do is manage a bunch of forums for
different customers. You can google "forum hosting" to get a list or
you can go to:

https://www.phpbb.com/hosting/

They offer different levels of service. Make sure that you sign up
with one that does absolutely everything for you, since I know that's
what you want.

Thanks

I am on a "site" that has a server for artists
I find it is quite versatile and does what I need, images, history, bio, etc.
My problem as usual is I don't fit the mold -- for me typical---
For example I do paintings ( as well as sculpture ) my subject mater is the sun , stars , intergalactic clouds etc. my paintings are stretched canvas on ROUND stretchers with ROUND frames,up to 5 feet in diameter ( in space there is no up or down so why should a painting have a top or bottom? -so round ) Most don't know what to think--- like what did I expect!. Standard operating procedure, like my whole life. whatever. It is interesting however that those who have seen my work and are under 40 years of age generally know what the subject matter is, those over 40 do not . Gallery owners tend to be over 40 years of age, nice. -- I am 70 years young.

Thanks for the information.

cheers
