So why would officials lie? (Gov. Tim Walz said Saturday morning that as many as 80 percent of the people were outsiders.)

Update (1440ET): After blaming "outsiders" for instigating the riots that have left swaths of Minneapolis in ruins, the city's mayor, Jacob Frey, is now also blaming "foreign actors"...

Governor Walz, at our request and in partnership with our city and @MayorCarter Carter, has just fully mobilized the Minnesota National Guard. MPD and our fire department will be assisting tonight as part of this operation.

Noted from antiquity for its wrathful scorn toward all representatives of social deviance, some politically progressive scholars such as, W. S. Anderson and later S. M. I've been trying to figure out, given the events that have transpired since the ~3400 peak in the SPX, what an equivalent overvaluation would be now. That's very hard to do and it has a large margin of error to it but it's my best guess that an equivalent overvaluation to 3400 SPX in February would be about 3060 today.

Any guesses?
Yes, given the companies that have gone bankrupt and the reduction in forward earnings, I would guess it would have to be below 3000 to have the same forward P/E as it did at 3400.
I asked my broker the same question before giving him my estimate. He also said 3000 max.
My estimate of 3060 assumes that there is an uneventful recovery with nothing else going wrong. No second wave, no destructive war, etc. I hardly think that will happen, but that's what I think is priced into the market right now.
While the periphery breaks down rather slowly at first, the capital cities of the hegemon should collapse suddenly and violently.

The USA today seems like an Ayn Rand novel. People who try to open up their own business to do nails, groom dogs, gym, etc are getting arrested. People who loot and burn businesses are not arrested. People who were in jail for violent crimes are being let out on the grounds that they might catch a virus in jail. People are getting paid more to not work than to work. Something near 1/3 of the private jobs have been lost in 2 months. About 2% more every week. People in Government jobs are just having a vacation. Some stock indexes are at all time highs. Seems so crazy it is like fiction.

Yes I agree with you. With my British heritage I would have said Lewis Carroll and the adventures of Alice in Wonderland, but I'll buy Ayn Rand as well. It's a daft market and I have no doubt will be recorded in the history books!!! I was wondering if these riots would have an effect upon Wall Street? Up until now the 5 dma remains firmly above the 20 dma and I can't see a crash until the short term negative appears. If the market believes that Trump will lose November that would be a reason for the market to come off.

The riots may help Trump win November as he seems to be saying all the right things to moderate whites
