Comments on Spiralman

I'm starting a separate "comments" thread in order to solicit
opinions on the postings authored by "Spiralman." And let me once
again thank Matt1989 for doing the leg work of reposting them here.

Just to get my own opinions out of the way: I find Spiralman's
postings to be extremely interesting. I certainly don't agree with
most of the Marxist slant, and I find it puzzling that someone who
understands The Singularity, as he does, appears to completely ignore
it in some of his future projections. Still, taking the postings
together, it's some of the most original and striking collection of
articles on the internet.

However, I'd to solicit some other people's comments?
  1. Are people reading the postings?
  2. Are there any other opinions?
  3. How come nobody has posted any comments?
  4. Have I set things up the best way? (And here I'm referring to
the separate "Spotlight" forum, with two threads.) Or is there a
    better way?
Sincerely,

John

I find the information very interesting; particularly his showing trends developing for example in China about energy, military, etc. and that they seem to be preparing to be an independent super power.

Also, the trends developing in alternative energy.

I like the idea of a separate "Spotlight" forum.

I'm reading them with interest and passing on some of his links to my friends. I have not commented yet because a lot of it is passing on facts, or possible facts, which require no comment. I do not yet see an overtly Marxist viewpoint except that he talks about Dialectic, and wonder if he's coming from the theories of Ken Wilbur instead. The name "Spiralman" hints at it.

But yes, so far, so good.

I will not be able to update Spiralman's posts on Friday and Saturday. They should reappear on Sunday evening.

It's still up in the air whether I can do this after May 1st.

[Data is hammering home the message of overproduction crisis.

Almost 50% of total food budget spent in restaurants!
That represents a serious industrialized encroachment of one of the historic forms of labor that went on in the nuclear family.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this dynamic even continues in a new form during the crisis as people still spend less money and labor eating in their own homes, and spend more time and money eating with groups of people, either at friends and neighbors houses, at their job site itself, or in soup kitchens, prisons, and military mess halls.
]
Has anyone ever thought to tie the rate of eating out to the existence of the two-income household and the one-parent, one-income household? The "historic form on labor that went on in the nuclear family" was that of a stay-at-home housewife with either no outside work, or else part-time outside work. Though when one of my generation did have a full-time job she was still expected to cook the family meals, and arrangement that slowly fell into eating out and ordering in as the pattern became more prevalent. As the old song said, "Something's gotta give," and cooking in was what gave.

This is important because I have seen more Xers starting to eat at home and this may parallel a trend towards the person with the lower income sacrificing their income in order to take care of the home and the children - as a practical economic decision. If you can't afford child care and can't afford to eat out, again, something's gotta give.

Has anyone tracked this against earlier 3Ts?

Matt has told me that his schedule is becoming busier, and his last
day posting these messages will be April 29.

If anyone else is willing to volunteer, before or after April 29,
please let me know.

Otherwise, this service will end on April 29.

I'd like to thank Matt again for all the work he put into this. It
was greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

John

Alright; that's all folks. I would continue to do this but I'm getting a little too busy to be motivated.

I'm waiting on an email from the real Spiralman regarding this topic, and I'll let you know if there is anything that can be done if you really enjoyed this service.
