Fables, old stories or the truth?
An 8 minuet video about Immanual Velikovsky's book "Worlds In Collision" published in 1950 - before the space age. He used ancient writings which recorded celestial events that impacted humanity https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1U_c6xlXXew - In 1994 a comet impacted Jupiter with surprising results , this gave credence to Velikovsky's work and also to the ancient's words.
an example --
An Egyptian priest told Herodotus that according to the records in their library the Sun changed direction many centuries ago from rising in the East and setting in the West to rising in the West and setting in the East , and then changing again centuries later, rising in the East and setting in the West as it does now. Each change took less then a day and great destruction occurred to structures sparing only small ones At the same time the land and sea changed. --Velikovsky thought this could happen by a close encounter with another celestial object due to it's electric charge or magnetic field.
Sort a like the tippy top - that is in relation to the conservation of angular motion https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyAgeUneFds
A 10 minuet video on Nikola Tesla which relates to the above https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akM9KNEv_JE
It should be noted that the "skull" asteroid - 2015 TB145 passed by Earth Oct 31 at a distance of about 300,000 miles, the Earth orbits at about 70,000 miles per hour so one could say we missed getting hit by about 4 and 1/4 hours. The skull was about 2000 feet in diameter, the meteor creator in Arozona is about 7/10 of a mile in diameter caused by a metor about 160 feet in diameter https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meteor_Crater ---- So the skull is about 4,100 times larger and would have caused a creator about 72 miles in diameter. That would have had a major impact on Earth and it's climate.
But the ancestors know nothing

Re: Fables, old stories or the truth?
If 2015 TB145 had hit land, the crater would have been about 9 miles in diameter (the size of crater is roughly proportional to the size of the impactor, and the ratios are 12.5).
This depends, of course, on speed, angle of impact, structure of earth at site, impactor composition, etc.

I did a rough calculation on cubic volume vs impact area as a ratio comparison, Thanks for the information and correction, yes, the impact is around 9 to 12 miles depending on variables as you and the above indicate. Depending upon impact location it could still make for a very unpleasant day. And considering the short notice of it's close arrival one could say we are constantly rolling dice hoping we don't get snake eyes, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snake_eyesTom Mazanec wrote:If 2015 TB145 had hit land, the crater would have been about 9 miles in diameter (the size of crater is roughly proportional to the size of the impactor, and the ratios are 12.5).

Actually, hitting water might be worse. Calculate the tsunami heights, and bear in mind that waves peak as they approach land.
It might not leave a crater, but half the seaside cities of Earth could be washed away.

That thought crossed my mind as well. When Krakaota 1883 when off the wave it generated was recorded as far away as London, Of course Tambora 1815, caused the year with out summer in 1816 when global temperatures dropped 5 degrees.Tom Mazanec wrote:Actually, hitting water might be worse. Yea , nature plays the joker as she sees fit.
Re: Fables, old stories or the truth?
On a slightly different topic -- Maybe we should pay a little more heed to the ancient writings.

Sorry.
As far as I'm concerned, Pluto is the ninth planet. Go Pluto!

Four kinds of wormwood are found in Palestine-- Artemisia nilotica , A. Judaica , A. fructicosa and A. cinerea . The word occurs frequently in the Bible, and generally in a metaphorical sense. In ( Jeremiah 9:15 ; 23:15 ; Lamentations 3:15 Lamentations 3:19 ) wormwood is symbolical of bitter calamity and sorrow; unrighteous judges are said to "turn judgment to wormwood." ( Amos 5:7 ) The Orientals typified sorrows, cruelties and calamities of any kind by plants of a poisonous or bitter nature.
10 And the third angel sounded the trumpet, and a great star fell from heaven, burning as it were a torch, and it fell on the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters:
11 And the name of the star is called Wormwood. And the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.
Revelations 8:10-11
