[quote="John"]** 23-Mar-2020 World View: Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Map - March 23, 2020

Some statistics for comparison.

Seasonal flu in the US (only), 2019-2020
Cases: 38,000,000 - 54,000,000
Hospitalizations: 390,000 - 710,000
Deaths: 23,000 - 59,000

Global influenza estimates annually (WHO):
Severe cases: 3-5 Million
Deaths: 250,000 -500,000

Time will tell, but shutting down the planet may turn out to be a huge overreaction.

One sees what one looks for and wants to see.

Those invested in their predictions, will see their predictions "coming on" in ANY case.

Making predictions is wise, especially if based on "discovered natural principles",.. but NEVER become invested in predictions,.. at least not to the level at which you cannot afford to lose.

And I'm not talking particularly of money value investment, but more importantly "happiness/emotional" value investment.

Despair is all too easy to fall into for the "intelligent". The more intelligent, the more likely despair will ensue due to the failings of that insight, where in "normal" people, fear, anger and violence are more likely to ensue. "Normal" people are more accustomed to fight for what they need, than the despairing, who whine and plea to be saved by the elite of which they consider themselves a part.

At times of stress people are not susceptible to persuasion that counters their emotional investments.

Things will occur as they have to occur, based on the investments made well before ANY outward signs are apparent, and no attempts at convincing those invested, which is everyone, will change a single thing.

Pleading, panicking, and pugilism are baked into the situation. They're not bugs, they're features.

Don't base your ability to counter despair (aka happiness) on anything, and especially on your emotional investments. And you are insane to base your happiness on your financial investments, as should always have been obvious as that is the nature of gambling. "Don't bet what you can't happily lose!"

Happiness comes if you call it. It's that simple. This fact is most difficult for the "intelligent" to understand.

(( Aren'tcha proud of me for leaving out all the MANY surf based analogies that I COULD have included in there!? It took GREAT restraint, believe me! ))

The 1918 flu pandemic killed 657,000 in the US. The reason it was so low in the US compared to the 50 million plus worldwide is they did the same thing then that we are doing now. The estimates are as high as 2.2 million for the current outbreak. We didn’t go down the tubes in 1918 and we are not going down the tubes now. I suggest you read and or watch the many hours of info on the 1918 pandemic! Look closely at one of the cities in the US that refused to follow the distancing rules and had a parade anyway.

Two things:

1) We need a "thumbs up" function to applaud posts like Scrat's.

2) John should start printing and selling T-Shirts with "STFA!" on the front and back.

(( "Stay the F*** Away!" ))

OK,.. and one other thing: A T-Shirt reading "Partay Like It's Two Thousand One and NINE..!!", for the eventual revitalization of the planet.

You don't want them to go away. If it weren't for all these other
people, the world wouldn't be able to see how stunningly brilliant
your own posts are by comparison.

They can do all their ADMIRING (of me, apparently) from WAY OVER THERE..!! :)

..but I do love people,.. even though people right now are not to be proximally tolerated. We all need to " S E P A R A T E ".

And my posts are not stunningly brilliant. They are merely brilliant. Let's not exaggerate. <chuckle!>

Keep the acclamation and adulation down to a low roar,.. OK? Gets embarrassing...

    • People will tire of the shutdown restrictions. Some men with families will need to find ways to continue earning money. Young people will find ways to party. So the whole shutdown concept has an expiration date anyway.
The "powers that be" have to bend to the inevitabilities, as everything has an expiry.

That particular bullet point is the most important "info" in your entire article. NO ONE dares to say it out loud!

No one but our JaX! Our man of daring do!

..we need a good chant, or fight song. I'll work on that. :)

The story that our present "situation" will carve is gonna be an interesting one. Who will be "shocked" by turns of events? Who won't be? Why will they be shocked? Why will some be unimpressed?

It's an interesting hobby to run scenarios based on "interesting situations" drawn from reality.

But does it change anything? ..of course not.

It does make good fodder for potentially pretty good fiction, though. The trouble is that instead of observing actual history and learning from it as great entertainment, most will be disappointed that reality doesn't conform to their "predictions" or "hopes", and complain about it,.. loudly.
