You make exactly the right point. People don't want to know
what's going on today, and it doesn't even make sense to them.
All people want to see is fake news.

I'm experimenting with a new format. Check out the

There are plenty of jobs in the Boston area. The computer industry is
not hiring anyone over age 40, regardless of experience. I've had the
experience several times in the last few months where a recruiter
calls to ask if I'm available, I tell him I have plenty of experience
but I'm an "older person, and the recruiter laughs or says nothing and
hangs up. It's amazing.

I read this posts for years now and always enjoyed them, thank you for the years of informative reading!

Suggestion, have you thought about getting a contracting job in tech for the government? They really need computer scientists and are constantly looking (even during the shutdown DoD still has money). Also I know some federal agencies such as the patent office need technical expertise to review patents.

Just some ideas, I know it is tough out there!

John,

Best of luck to you! Your daily emails have been great and I have gotten a lot out of them for the last 10+ years. Would love to see them continue, but I understand how difficult things can be. Your work is really good and I hope you get more exposure and some paid work out of everything you do.

Oh yeah, have you thought about Patreon? I'm sure you probably have, but that might be worth trying . . .

Anyway, thank you for all your hard work and insight. Looking forward to more when you can get to it and definitely looking forward to the China book.

Cordially,
Tetmo

The government is no different than the private sector regarding age
discrimination. If I had an active security clearance it might help,
but my security clearance expired five years ago.

I'm still posting regular news stories in the new format:

Surprise! I've actually received some compliments. No offers
of employment, though.

Thanks for your comments. I posted a lengthy analysis of the Patreon
idea:
