  • Police point guns at Hong Kong protesters on
    Sunday.

The police used water cannons, tear gas and live ammunition, while the
protesters used bricks and petrol bombs (Molotov cocktails).

October 1 will be the big Chinese independence day celebration. Xi
Jinping will want to resolve the Hong Kong situation by them. The
extremist activists will want to humiliate Xi as much as possible.
However, public sentiment in Hong Kong will be to avoid violence. All
these strands will come together in the next month, and we may get
some clarity on where Hong Kong is going. Or, as one report
says, the protests will be "settled or crushed" by October 1.

Boomers, exactly WHY is Hong Kong and exactly WHY is Taiwan so important to you? Whats wrong with simple neutrality. Those are THEIR (the sinosphere's) issues that they have to sort out, not ours. Face it you guys want to give away the whole store of the west, as some form of "spiritual cleansing". You hate the very idea of abiding by the law, because respecting those laws means you don't get your way. Are you going to block the chinese army moving in to quell the protests just because your precious FEELINGS were hurt? You silent/boomers are a generation of Morons if that is the case; because china is operating well within its rights under existing international law. On the other hand, our government's position on the protests has no legitimacy under current international law.

I'll tell you the same thing that I told you a month ago.

I'm not your servant that I have to answer any questions at all from a
disrespectful little twerp like you. I answer a question when it's
asked respectfully, when the subject matter interests me, and even
then only when I'm in the mood.

We have mutual defense treaties with many of these countries, and so
coming to their defense IS required by international law.

As for protests, I don't know the details, but there are various human
rights treaties in international law, and something like the Tiananmen
Square massacre may well be a violation of international law, not to
mention completely incredibly stupid on the part of the incompetent
idiots in the CCP.

Gee, CH86, I'm glad to know that Truman could not go into Korea, and Johnson could not go into Vietnam, without Congressional approval. Why if not for that there could be a wall in Washington DC with almost 60,000 names on it!
Citing the Vietnam war as an example, AND saying that it was the right thing to do. Have you globalists learned absolutely nothing since the 1950s? The Vietnam war, which wrecked our social fabric throughout the west with the damage still being visible to this day. An obvious example of government overreach. Establishment TYRANTS need to learn how to share, YOU guys need to take responsibility, and when things do go wrong, you definitely need to STOP blaming everybody else for not slavishly agreeing with you guys. These days it is blatantly obvious that the American People HATE their ruling class.
Where did I say it was the right thing to do? It was the wrong thing to do. My point is that it happened. You say we can't have a war because Congress would not approve. We can very easily have wars even if Congress would not approve.

Finally! A timeline.

Uh-oh: Silicon Valley is building a Chinese-style social credit system
In China, scoring citizens’ behavior is official government policy. U.S. companies are increasingly doing something similar, outside the law.
