The problem with 5G in the UK isn't disease or cancer, it's that they're using equipment from Huawei. But there are stupid people all over the world.

** 08-Apr-2020 Status of new GD forum

Fishbelly - thank you for posting a little humor as the world almost
seems to be shutting down, and I seem to have less and less energy.

It was just a little over a year ago that I was writing an article
every day, 365 days a year. But then, after I'd written thousands of
articles for Breitbart for which I hadn't been paid, Breitbart decided
to screw me, and then to top it off, Alexander Marlow and Frances
Martel at Breitbart tried to defraud me out of thousands of dollars.
"Haha, Xenakis is just a stupid, pathetic Boomer. Let's see how much
we can screw the pathetic Boomer, and steal some of his money. Haha."
This is typical of the very low morals that are typical today. That's
when I really realized what a fool I'd been and how I was just wasting
my time.

But I've kept on because there are people online who depend on me, and
anyway, I don't have anything else to do. But nothing's changed. In
four or five months I'm going to run out of money, and that will be
the end of me which, at my age, and considering that the people at
Breitbart are typical, is not really unwelcome. With the pandemic, a
lot of people are now in a similar situation, or in much worse
situations. And anyway, if I catch Covid-19, then at my age I'll
probably die anyway. (I always seem to think of that old Bee Gees
song, "Til I finally died, which started the whole world living, Oh,
if I'd only seen that the joke was one me.")

Actually, I have been working on a project the last few days, and
fortunately I'm close to having it working. This Generational
Dynamics forum (gdxforum.com/forum) eight years ago was split off from
the main GenerationalDynamics.com web site because both sites were
under continuous attacks by Chinese bots.

So now I want to move the forum from its current web host (Newtek) to
the web host of the main web site (Vital). I've moved the forum in
the past (8, 9, 10 years ago), and it was pretty easy to do, but this
time it was a huge problem, because I have to upgrade the forum
software from phpBB-3.1 to phpBB-3.3. This has been a nightmare
because the two versions require different versions of php, and the
new web host is using something called SuPHP which has caused a myriad
of problems.

I started working on this on Sunday. It was complicated because I had
to do both a move and an upgrade, and I kept getting blocked by one
problem after another. But a couple of hours ago I breathed a HUGE
sigh of relief because I got a test version of the GD forum, using
phpBB-3.3 software, working on the new web host with SuPHP. This was
done with a huge number of workarounds, and hacks, and kludges, but I
got the problems solved. This is really important because when I
disappear and somebody else (Higgenbotham) takes over, if I hadn't
done this move/upgrade he would have faced a really huge mess. But
after the move/upgrade to 3.3, everything should work ok with little
effort. And as I said, I'm VERY relieved that this is finally
working, because there have been times in the last couple of days when
I was afraid I wouldn't get all the problems solved.

So the current status of the test version of the GD forum is that it
seems to be working OK, though the data base is a few days old, so
recent posts are missing.

So I'm going to keep on testing for a couple of days. Then I'll
download the current database from this forum and upload it to the new
forum, so that all the posts on the new forum will be up to date.
Then I'll notify this forum that it's moving to the new forum, and
that anything that you post for a day or two should be saved, because
it may disappear during the transition, and will have have to be
re-posted. Then I'll change the DNS pointers for gdxforum.com to
point to the new web host. It will take a day or so for the DNS
change to propagate across the internet.

In the meantime, it would be helpful if anyone reading this could take
the time to test out the test version of the new forum, and let me
know if there are any problems. Your existing usernames and passwords
should be the same. Try posting something, but keep in mind that
anything you post in the new forum will disappear during the
transition.

Here is the URL for the test version of the new forum:

http://67.43.13.173/~gdxforum/bb2/

So give it a try, and let me know if everything is ok. Thanks.

John,

I was just reading that both Connecticut and Rhode Island were desperately looking for "retired" programmers who understood COBOL to help them with their unemployement systems, which have crashed.

Hope this might be something you could hook into.

John, fate is with you and me. Half the country is bust and facing homelessness. You are not alone. Hang in there.

Hi John,
I just checked the test forum link and got a 404 Error page. Perhaps it is down for rework
PS:
I have been following you for years and read your books. Much appreciate your efforts :D
