This sounds right, although the Chinese Communists also want multiple
vectors to the Indian Ocean so that they can avoid having to pass
through the Strait of Malacca.
In December, I described China's delusional geopolitical strategy,
based on a CCP newletter sent to me.
In summary: Guided by China's leadership, countries throughout Africa,
Asia and the Mideast will put aside their disagreements. Old hatreds
will be mended by necessity, to attract capital for investments.
These include countries like Iran, Saudi Arabia, India, and Pakistan.
China will create a "global colossal," of dozens of countries in a
massive multi-country partnership, bound together by China's Belt and
Road Initiative (BRI).
China claims that it will lead a world of trade and peace, and the
only thing that can go wrong is American jealousy that will lead to
war.
It's entirely delusional, but it depends on the Belt and Road
Initiative (BRI) which will give China access not only to Asian ports,
but also to the Mideast, Africa and Europe. They will have not only
control of the infrastructure in many countries, but also control of
the governments through debt trap diplomacy, and enclaves of Chinese
families who were sent in to do the work, spy on the government and
people, and report back to Beijing.

So I'm sure you're right about the Chinese Communists' desire to build
a brand spanking new Burma Road. It will be a shining part of their
new web of control over the whole world.
