China can't even take over Taiwan.

China is preparing to use mass force to resolve the issue. They will defeat you like they defeated the Buddhists of Tibet. Be ready for bloodshed China will not tolerate this much longer.

I wish the HK people the best of luck. When the PRC government comes in and starts cracking heads there will be a lot of dead HKers. Just like the Tienanmen Square massacre. 2047 HK will be full out Marxist, unless the PRC collapses. Communism is dying a slow death, the Marxist in charge in the PRC will do everything and anything to hang onto power.

Cantonese has already been mostly replaced by Mandarin (and will eventually survive only in NYC, SF, Vancouver, etc.) Coming up - driving on the right and bad food.

Tibet was no economic powerhouse like Hong Kong is. The PRC gets heavy handed with control over the old colony, and they could k!ll the goose that lays the golden egg for China’s finances.

The Same Would be true in both Russia and China.

** 14-Jul-2019 Hong Kong - Sha Tin riots

This weekend's riots in Hong Kong seem to be extremely dangerous,
given the paranoia of the CCP.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-hong ... SKCN1U904G

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/asia-pac ... 06959.html

Could one of you with knowledge of Hong Kong give me some information?

This weekend's riots are in the Sha Tin suburb, and are apparently
directed less at the government and more at the mainland public. I've
written stories in the past about how much Hong Kongers hate
mainlanders who come to Hong Kong to shop, for a variety of reasons.

So my question is this: Is this purely a Hong Kong vs mainland
issue?

Or is this also a south vs north, Cantonese vs Mandarin issue?

Any information or insight would be appreciated.

Fishdude, What Millennials (and to a large extent also Xers and Homelanders) are asking from the elders can be summed up as follows: We are not interested in becoming a "Ned Flanders" type, we have no interest in the survival of that archetype or it becoming the dominant template for "Americans". We are asking, how can we perpetuate the Homer Simpson Type through the Crisis so that the basis exists for the prosperity and continued perpetuation of the "Homer Simpson" template for what defines the "American" through and after the Crisis?

** 14-Jul-2019 World View: Hong Kong's Carrie Lam has job security -- Chinese style

The pro-democracy, anti-Beijing protests continued on Sunday,
and apparently will continue indefinitely.

One of the demands of the protesters is the Hong Kong leader
Carrie Lam, who was hand-picked by Beijing, must step down.

According to reports, Carrie Lam has offered to resign several
times, but Beijing is refusing to allow her to do so, saying
that it's her responsibility to clean up the "mess" that she
created, so she has to stay in office.

So Carrie Lam is in the enviable situation of having job
security, guaranteed by China's government.

** 15-Jul-2019 World View: Ebola in DR Congo reaches Goma

There was something of a panic over the weekend, as the first
cases of Ebola were reported in Goma, in the Democratic
Republic of Congo (DRC).

Goma is a city of more than two million people, a transport hub for
all of central Africa. An Ebola outbreak in Goma has the ability
to spread rapidly to other countries throughout the region.

The story is that last Tuesday, a pastor in Butembo took a bus south
to Goma. Ebola is widespread in Butembo, and the priest apparently
had Ebola without yet having any obvious symptoms. While in Butembo,
the pastor held regular services in seven churches, during which he
laid his hands on worshippers, including people who were ill. During
the bus trip he shook hands with and touched all the other passengers,
as well as the bus driver.

According to DRC's health ministry, the pastor was treated quickly,
everyone on the bus has been identified, and they're all being given
vaccines, so they're hopeful that Ebola will not spread any further in
Goma.
