Swarms at War: Chinese Advances in Swarm Intelligence


Chinese advances in artificial intelligence, including deep learning
techniques, have enabled considerable progress in swarm
intelligence. There is technical and conceptual research, development,
and testing ongoing across Chinese academic institutions, the private
sector, defense industry, and military research institutes to support
such capabilities. At this point, given the limited information
available and the relative opacity of these efforts, it is difficult
to compare U.S. and Chinese advances in swarm
intelligence. Nonetheless, the PLA has closely tracked
U.S. initiatives focused on swarm tactics (e.g., Science and
Technology Daily, March 29; Science and Technology Daily, May 30,
2016) and seeks to develop countermeasures and comparable
capabilities. Looking forward, the PLA’s advances in intelligent
unmanned systems and swarm tactics could serve as a force multiplier
for its future military capabilities.

Since a Crisis War tends to see the most terrible and devastating weapons used, this makes me wonder if we might not see strong AI (both online and in robotics) become the new "wonder weapon". It could go very bad for all of humanity if the technological singularity is born out of weapons of war. I am not convinced that we can directly shape the "personality" of the singularity, but I do think that military AI birthing the singularity could potentially see it achieve sentience with a built-in bias (instinctual drive?) against humanity in general and against certain categories of humans in particular, based on the programming of the technology from which it is awakened.[/quote]

Absolutely. Why send soldiers into a town and go house to house to
kill all the women and children, when you can send robots into a town
and do the same thing more efficiently?

Absolutely. Why send soldiers into a town and go house to house to

and do the same thing more efficiently?

This might take awhile. AI equal to human IQ is projected for 2029 even by optimists like Kurzweil.

It definitely will take a while but mind you the conflict hasn't even started and I believe the crisis period is due to end around that time period.
