Ummmmmmm ... if you've lost your key they can open your box without
it. If you don't show up by Nov 3, why do they have to drill to open
your box?

Regarding the above photo, this letter was sent by regular US mail in early September. For some background, the bank gives a free safe deposit box to any customer that meets the deposit threshold. In other words, the use of a safe deposit box is encouraged in some fashion because it is offered to customers for free. When I went into the branch last week to close my box, the manager told me that 600 boxes have been closed and there are 400 to go.

Now let's think about this and those remaining 400 people who have until November 3 to get their box closed for a quick second. Why does somebody who has some wealth use a safe deposit box? Well, it would seem to me that if a person was going to be leaving the states to go overseas for a few months (say for work in the oilfields, etc.) they might feel it is safer to leave some expensive jewelry in their safe deposit box than to leave it in their home, given that it is known they are out of the country. How is that person going to get back to the US by November 3 to empty that jewelry out of their box? How will they know that a letter is waiting for them in their mailbox?

While I can't prove that the above was initiated by Generation X, it would seem so. It fits the modus operandi of X.

Now let's move onto the stuff that certainly was initiated by Generation X.

A couple weeks ago I needed to get a new car battery. My 9 year old mid range Delco battery finally went and there are no longer any auto parts stores in this area that sell Delco batteries. I found a Duracell Gold battery online at Batteries Plus and their website said if you purchased the Duracell Gold battery online you could get 10% off, then go to the store to pick it up. I purchase with my credit card and went to the store. This battery has a 3 year warranty, and a prorated warranty for 66 months.

Upon arriving at the store, the Gen X manager told me the battery was not in stock. I was pretty sure by the way he was acting that he was lying and, of course, the web site said it was in stock and in the store for pickup. I asked him what he would suggest, as my battery was dead and needed immediate replacement. He suggested to get the next lower grade battery for only $20 less with just a 2 year warranty and no prorated warranty. I asked him how long he thought each battery would last. He said, oh, a battery is a battery and they all last about 5 years regardless. I knew that was complete bullshit, besides the fact that the warranties on the 2 batteries were completely different. I told him to refund my money and went over to Walmart to get a battery.

The day after I got the battery and replaced it, I stopped at the grocery store. They had thawed wild salmon in the case that appeared to be fresh on sale for $9 per pound. The same frozen filets in the adjacent case were marked $14 per pound. There was a Boomer woman standing there waiting and when the Gen Xer came up to wait on us she told me to go first. I pointed at the thawed filets and asked the Xer if they were fresh or previously frozen. He knew that I knew the difference beause we'd already done that drill once before. He said, oh, they're not in season right now. In other words, he did not directly admit that they were previously frozen, then added he forgot to mark down the frozen filets in the case to match the sale price. I told him to go back into the freezer and weigh one up and mark it with the sale price. He went back to the freezer and the Boomer woman turned to me in disgust. I said, "It's everywhere" and she said yeah, it is. Then while the Xer was getting the filet I told her about the bait and switch scheme at Batteries Plus. She wasn't surprised in the least.

I had a female Gen X supervisor. My workplace had decided to stuff 2 people in cubicles that were designed for one person and not pay to rearrange the furniture. I told my supervisor not to put a woman in my cubicle under those conditions. She had fired my cube mate, who was a Gen X male, and another person was due in but we didn't yet know who it would be. The Gen X male told me he had PTSD and would have qualified for disability, but he wanted to work. The reason he was afflicted with PTSD was a long story but it involved what sounded like bonafide discrimination against males at a university he went to for his master's in Geology. He was kind of disruptive, but I could live with it. As I stated to others, men have been bunked up in prisons and mining camps for centuries and it is doable. I told my boss that he shaved about 20-25% off my productivity. She didn't appear to care.

So when they decided on a replacement and I was told it would be a female, I reiterated my request and asked her to move a male in with me and put the female with another female. She refused and they moved the female in, who was a 300 pound (roughly) Gen Xer. A quick google search showed over 40 previous addresses, over 40 previous phone numbers and a potential alias. In addition, she admitted she was addicted to chewing ice and spent as much as 3 hours per day chewing ice within 4 feet of earshot while I was attempting to do highly complex engineering work.

I will finish this story later (there's a lot to it).

aeden, feel free to continue the regularly scheduled programming.

What I posted last night is ONLY THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG of the fraud, lies, schemes, scams, mismanagement, and generalized cluelessness of Generation X, "The Monkeys Flying the 747 Into the New Dark Age of Western Civilization", that I have witnessed in just the past 90 days alone. There is MUCH MORE to come - easily preventable credit card fraud that a major US bank allowed nonetheless, terminated employees getting past security to roam around inside their former workplaces for hours while employees feared they may go postal, more generalized mismanagement from top corporations, and much more.

I will finish this story later (there's a lot to it).
Before finishing the discussion of this incident, I must first take a detour and talk about an employee I will call Mr Millennial. Mr Millennial graduated with a Bachelor's and Master's in engineering from engineering schools ranked 42 and 9 in the US (according to US News) and with a grade average over 3.5 from each school. Mr Millennial was assigned to me for any technical questions he might have. He didn't ask me for a lot. He would typically bring an assignment to me and ask what to do with it and I would give him my best assessment. Within a few weeks, my female Gen X supervisor informed me that she had told Mr Millennial to pass all of his finished work product through me for review before she reviewed it, as the quality of his output was extremely low and full of errors. Mr Millennial did not pass a single work product through me. Four months after he started, Mr Millennial was fired for refusing to follow directions and for shoddy work performance. He was given no advance notice and escorted out of the building.

Some weeks later (maybe 6) Mr Millennial decided to reenter the building and was able to do so quite easily. He proceeded through security and unimpeded up to our floor and ended up in front of my shared cubicle in baggy pants and a baggy shirt. He seemed a bit disoriented but based on the answers to my questions his life was in good order so I was not too concerned. I kept him in front of the cubicle in a main thoroughfare in plain view so management could take action. My female Gen X supervisor walked by twice and did nothing.

The next day another female Gen X manager with some kind of HR responsibility called me into a meeting. She began listing things I should have done to get Mr Millennial out of the building. I told her that removing Mr Millennial from the building was management responsibility. I said that was why I kept him in plain view in front of my cubicle until management could see him. Once management saw him, my responsibility was done. I told her had I turned around and picked up the phone to call somebody as she suggested, he could have shot me. It was clear she was grasping at straws and had no idea how to handle a situation like this.

I then informed her that the real risk to me in the building was not Mr Millennial but in fact was a woman who sat right in my cubicle every day who had more than 40 previous addresses, more than 40 previous phone numbers, and a potential alias. I let her know that she was partially responsible for placing her there and she needed to be removed from my work area if I was to continue employment in that workplace, as she was creating a disturbance and I was not able to get work done. She said she would see about getting that done.

Now I will discuss the characteristics of the female Generation X employee who was placed in the same cubicle as me.

I would first describe her as a combination of:
Barking poodle
Four year old child who never stopped throwing temper tantrums
Sociopath or psychopath

The most sociopathic thing she would do is racially harass the black women on either side of the cubicle wall. Our cubicle was adjacent to two older black women and a Boomer white woman. The black women were administrative staff. One of the black women grew up during the Rosa Parks era. The sociopath in my cubicle would constantly talk about how she had a driver and a maid when she lived overseas, her privileged upbringing, etc. I could see the black women were seething in anger. I thought to myself that this is why black people hate us. I never completely understood until I saw the constant taunting these women took from the white female Gen Xer. She would go right up to the line with something that was obviously meant to taunt but fell short of breaking work rules or laws.

She did the same with me, sexually harassing me but not to the point where I could have taken legal action. I documented it and gave it to my female Gen X supervisor but she did nothing. I also told her she was harassing other employees in a worse manner than me, but again she did nothing.

I talked to a female Boomer lawyer. She advised me to request a cubicle move. I talked to 3 long term employees who told me that was out of the question, and anybody who requested such would be refused and labeled "not a team player". They said they had already seen that. So you may wonder why the woman in the HR function had offered to move one of us. She later admitted the only way she could have done it was to work around the system by making some kind of convenient excuse.

So I turned in my resignation. That's where it really got interesting because I got to see how Generation X thinks. Recall John's Equifax story. It was the same thing.
