I agree and this is why I find it hard to believe America is going to unite in the coming crisis.

....
Your average conservative will not care when China hits Taiwan. They sure won't be running to the recruiting office to sign up to fight the PLA in an Asian war.

If China attacked the West Coast, who are they attacking? Conservatives with American values do not live there.

America is no longer America.

There is nothing left to conserve or fight for.

Biden is not the problem he is the symptom. You had a Presidential political candidate receive $10 million dollars from China, who we are going to war with soon, and yet half the country or more supports him!

Let the illegals, black radicals, and feminists, and transgenders fight the Chinese. I no longer care what happens to my FORMER country.
You may say that now... but what happens when the outbreak of war affects you personally?
This is important subject matter and deserves better analysis than John normally gives. I think how European Americans react to China aggression and World War will be in terms of degrees. It won't be overt wholesale unity though.

If China invades Taiwan, very few Americans (but the usual warhawks) will push for a call to arms. If China makes massive attacks on mainland Japan, the call to arms will be greater, but there won't be many lining up at the recruiting station, having learned how foolish the Gulf Wars were. There will be zero recent immigrants and refugees lining up to fight.

If China attacks US assets in South Pacific, WWIII will be in progress. It will be a mixed bag of European Americans lining up to fight. I can't say how Black Americans will react but I know from military experience they are just as patriotic as white folks, so my guess is many will line up. There will be some very small participation by recent immigrants and refugees, but it will amount to no impact. Many will opt out and let others do the fighting, me included.

If Chinese shells are landing in your town and forces are kilometers away, YOU and ME and every able bodied American will probably be participating in the fight to whatever capacity we have. This includes YOU and ME standing side by side with some antifa POS and when he says, "Shall we kill those MFers?" to which we'll respond "Hell Yes Brother!.." That's how I see it playing out though instinctively it is repulsive.

If it comes to that, I see refugee immigrants doing exactly what they did before, running from the fight. It does not follow that they run from fighting in their home countries, then magically put their lives on the line to fight for America which they don't love at all, but rather see as a way to escape poverty and strife, and to exploit. That is what's called the "magic dirt theory". This includes to a lesser degree recent immigrants from Mexico and South America. They may participate more than other immigrants because they will have large community and family connections to protect. But if they can, they will head to borders north and south to escape the fighting. They have somewhere to run, those born here don't as much.

Woman who today claim they're just as capable as men on the battlefield will make a 180 turn overnight and run from the fight, claiming plausible excuses such as "someone has to take care of the children" and other excuses. There will be total, complete amnesia that they ever claimed to be combat capable. But they will certainly push with gusto for all males, sons and husbands, boyfriends and lovers, to die to protect them. There has never been a period in history when women didn't do this during an existential crisis.

That's not true. We'll be at war within 24 hours.

I agree, and I was not clear.

The things I proposed are notwithstanding any official actions by the US Govt whether to declare or engage in war. I am referring to the reaction of the general population and our degree of support and participation. I maintain it depends on the severity of the situation.

** 14-Nov-2020 World View: Expertise
pbrower2a wrote: > What expertise do you have that people in the CIA and DIA do not

All I can tell you is my observations, beginning with the 2007
Congressional Quarterly article that revealed that long-time experts
in Washington on the Mideast knew almost nothing about the Mideast.

Let's take Iran as an example. Someone in the CIA would be an expert
on Iran. He would be able to enumerate all the politicians, tell you
the locations of the country's army bases and missile sites, and all kinds
of other information that I wouldn't have a clue about.

But the chances are that he wouldn't understand the significance of
things like the Occultation in Shia theology, or the significance of
historical events like the Tobacco Revolt and the Constitutional
Revolutions, and their importance to Iran's policy today.

On December 31, 2015, there was a BBC World Service special show with
an hour of the top BBC reporters and analysts predicting what would
happen in 2016. Lyse Doucet has been a BBC reporter for almost 40
years, and is considered an expert on the Mideast. But she predicted
that in 2016, Saudi Arabia and Iran would get together to start peace
talks, and would settle many of their differences by the end of the
year.

As in the case of the Congressional Quarterly article, I almost
couldn't believe my ears. This wasn't a simple mistake like
forgetting the name of the Iran's president. This was massive
ignorance and stupidity about the Mideast in general and Iran in
particular, by someone who was supposed to be an expert.

Then there's Chris Murphy, who has been in Congress since 2007, and is
considered a leading Democrat expert on foreign policy. He gave a
speech that I mentioned in my last message. He said that the Saudi
blockade of Qatar was Trump's fault because of something or other that
I forget, and that Trump could have resolved it in two weeks. Once
again, we're not talking about simple misstatement, but a profoundly
ignorant "expert" who has no clue what's going on, and makes America
look like idiots. And according to reports, Biden is considering him
for Secretary of State.

Obama's Secretary of State was the abysmal idiot John Kerry, who stumbled
from one disaster to another. It's not enough to say that, well, hiring
Kerry was just a mistake, and it won't happen again. Trump would have
fired someone like Kerry within three months, but Obama kept him on for
years. I can only think that Obama wanted someone around who was even
stupider than he was.

Obama never did anything that even made sense to me. The epitome was
when al-Assad used chemical weapons, and Obama took a 15 minute walk
around the Rose Garden and, based on his 15-minute walk, decided to
reverse several years of his "red line" policy. Obama looked like a
complete fool in the Mideast. In fact, everything that he and Kerry
did made them look like complete fools, especially in the Mideast.

During the last four years, I've written about a dozen articles
explaining the complexities of Trump's policies, whether about North
Korea, China, Afghanistan, or the Mideast. I didn't always agree, but
at least his policies made sense. Obama's policies never made sense.

Biden has been hiding in his basement for a year, and appears to be a
total dolt. Kamala is a pretty little girl who giggles a lot, but is
not worth much in a crisis. Suppose there's a military confrontation
with China in March. There will be the initial nonsense blaming the
crisis on Trump, but that will pass as the crisis deepens. Will
either of them be able to handle it?

I doubt that anyone believes so. Hopefully, there's an army general
who knows what's going on in the world who can take over as de
facto
president, and lead the country through the crisis. The
country's survival may depend on it.

[P.S.: I heard a reporter on tv yesterday say that the reason that the
jihadists were able to attack on 9/11/2001 was because Clinton had not
provided intelligence briefings to Bush. I have to say, after
listening to people like AOC and Chris Murphy, that every time I think
that the people in Washington can't be any stupider, they find a way
to reach ever greater and greater heights of ignorance and stupidity.]

What do you think will happen to South Korea in this event? Immediate NK invasion?

I wish I could answer this question for you, but there are too many
possible scenarios.

One scenario is an "accidental invasion." Some kind of unintended
military clash occurs between Chinese and Taiwanese vessels,
escalating into a war. This scenario is possible because the Chinese
Communists are thirsting for war, are nationalistic to the point of
insanity, and make one stupid mistake after another.

Another scenario is the "lightning invasion." In this case, the
Chinese launch a surprise attack and try to capture the island within
a day, hoping that the US won't have time to respond. In this forum,
Navigator has argued that China would never succeed at this, because
the advance preparation would be detected. Nonetheless, the Chinese
Communist hypernationalistic insanity makes it possible.

A variation of this scenario would be a lightning invasion of Taiwan
coordinated with a North Korean invasion of South Korea. The Chinese
Communists, in their hypernationalistic insanity, might see the Korean
situation as a distraction to the US to prevent a reaction to the
Taiwan invasion.

Other variations involve a massive missile attack on American cities
and on American warships in the South China Sea.

However, there is "good news" for South Korea. A variation involving
a North Korean invasion of the South would be a distraction to the US,
but it would also be a distraction for China, as the South would
retaliate on Pyongyang, creating a refugee crisis into northeastern
China. Therefore, the Chinese Communists may go ahead with an attack
on Taiwan, but order its North Korean vassal not to attack the South.

All of this is highly speculative. China has 21 border disputes with
neighboring countries, which shows how insane the Chinese Communists
are, and any one of those could start a war with a totally different
scenario.

This will be World War III, and the only real difference among these
scenarios is the timeline -- the ordering and timing of events.

In response to another comment, the country facing an existential
threat will put aside political differences and everyone will unite
behind the president. There's an issue with Joe Biden, who has been
hiding out in his basement for a year, doesn't seem to know what's
going on, and probably can't lead America through a major
international crisis. Hopefully, Biden will appoint an army general
who can take over as de facto president, and lead the country
through the crisis.

Or maybe we will get "an amazing and talented" African American or Latino army general who is grossly incompetent but will be appointed to ispire (the soon to be dead) multicultural children of America.

We live in an age of insanity, John. Don't think that even in an existential crisis these boneheads won't do it.

War soon. Very soon.
