I forget where I read this, but I read that a lot of business actually get their start in the middle of a recession. It confused me at first, but then made a certain amount of sense, with an economic downturn clearing out the businesses that couldn't compete well enough.

When it comes to Iraq, this has also sparked a whole bunch of renewed expectations for a civil war. I think the latest prediction is for Iraq to end similar to Vietnam, for Syria's conflict to spread, and for Lebanon to collapse into another war.
