A trade war with China would absolutely trigger enormous nationalism
in the U.S. and in China, and would undoubtedly speed things up
quite a bit.
Just the PROSPECT of a trade war is increasing nationalism here. We're already having one on a small scale and there's a lot of support for taking measures against China. Ironically, it's the only thing the two parties agree on; I see both candidates portraying China as the bad guy, so sanctions against them have a lot of bipartisan support. The primary attitude seems to be that if we just get tough, than China will cry uncle and concede to our demands.

quite a bit.

Furthermore, it would have major repercussions in other countries,
and could trigger war between, say, Pakistan and India as a
side effect.

Funny how history repeats. In 1979 I was 16 and Jimmy Carter had to disclose the stealth aircrafts program because he was seen as weak. Now it seems to me that Barack Obama does the same with this CHAMP system..

They used to consider interest rates like that loan sharking, and it was illegal.

BOA's getting sued in New York. The New York prosecutors office is still on the job.

Something not many seem to realize is there are only two ends to any extreme political movement, anarchy or totalitarian control. A move to extremism will go to one or the other. Given that Israel's movement wants loyalty oaths, they'd appear to be heading in the totalitarian direction.

Greece could be forced out of the Eurozone. The problem with this is that about five more countries will exit as soon as the means exists.

Just what, exactly, does "throw Greece under the bus" mean? Sure I understand no more bailout cash. For who exactly? And like musical chairs, somebody is going to end up turning a rather large asset in to a very large liability. Who, exactly, is going to be left holding the "bag?"

How can the Greeks be permitted to continue to use a stable currency - the Euro - while spending like 1923 Wiemar Germany? And when the billions of Euros don't come who then defaults?
