Were Hussein still in power, my guess is that things would be the same, but different. Instead of Shia repressing Sunni, it would be secular Sunnis repressing Shia - as it had been throughout all of Hussein's Ba'athist reign; although Saddam was an equal opportunity monster, killing and torturing all who he perceived threatened him or dared to eclipse his popularity including Kurds, Shia, Christians, and some Sunni - Ba'athists who became "inconvenient."

Just a guess.

Not surprised by Al Qeda in Iraq; always thought all they had to do was wait until we left. Knowing GD says "not by much", I wonder how things would be if Hussein were still in power?
