The Kurds were the heavily involved in the Armenian genocide. This is something that is easily researched. Don't paint the Kurds as angels. They're not.

John: Perhaps you are right about the western references meaning more. It could refer to the current Armenian administration as running the country into the ground and allowing for an Azeri victory over the Armenians?

As for corruption: throw stones, even if your own government is corrupt. It's stupid to stay silent. Beyond that, American corruption isn't as crippling as what has been happening in Armenia. The elites have maneuvered to keep a Lebanese Armenian war hero out of office. The elites have murdered and gotten away with it. (Google the bathroom incident) Armenians would gladly emigrate to America to escape corruption. When you have lived in Eastern Europe, you will learn what real corruption looks like.

There must be something more to the "western Azerbaijan" remark,
because the phrase is too heavily laden with baggage to have been
an unintentional use.

First off, Azerbaijan is split into two parts, with a western province
separated from the rest of the country by Armenia.

Azerbaijan claims that all of Armenia should really be part of
Azerbaijan. The phrase "western Azerbaijan" could refer to Armenia
itself.

Nikol Pashinyan's campaign claim that Serzh Sargsyan is trying to
transform Armenia into western Azerbaijan strikes me as an extremely
bitter accusation, evoking the horrors of the 1989-94 crisis war
between the two countries.

So I feel pretty certain that Nikol Pashinyan's saying "western
Azerbaijan" refers to a lot more than just corruption.

Then there's one more complication:

The northwest province of Iran is named "West Azerbaijan."
This is similar to America's state "New Mexico."

Armenia has been corrupt since day 1. Ask the average Armenian. All of those countries are corrupt, all of them. Soros has nothing to do with that. The Armenian elite are corrupt already; they don't need George Soros' help...

The Armenians I have known closely are passionnately aware of the Turkish genocide. A California cemetery has Armenian dead grave markers that read, "Never Forget".
Perhaps this uprising has components of international "peasant" disgust with, Liar, liar, pants on fire", the unrest caused by Soros' great migration pot stirring and ready communication that makes instant information possible.
Hopefully this will not turn into Tieneman Square or worse yet Greece, the land of perpetual tumult. No nation thrives under despots.

North and South Korea...East and West Azerbijian... -JCP. I used to live in the Kavkaz. The native people were great. Too bad about their governments...

But why did he say "western Azerbaijan"? Why not just "Azerbaijan"?

He is referring to the fact that Azerbijian is a corrupt dictatorship. Ilham Aliyev, the current PM, is the son of the late Prime Minister. The country is run like a defacto monarchy, like North Korea. The Armenian opposition don't want that to happen in Armenia.
