No idea of your age. Those of us who were alive and aware during WWII, Korea and Vietnam have had more than glimpses of oriental grandiose ambitions. World domination combined with their lack of value for their own nation's human lives make them devious enemies.
The ETO and PTO were entirely different operations. Think about news film of massive German/Italian troop surrenders against pictires of Japanese suicide bodies, especially on captured islands and atolls.
Perhaps I have misread your underlying tone. China and North Korea are not to be taken lightly. Think about Japan's current world position. Only possible because of MacArthur's governance.

Those fortified islands are easily destroyed. They mean nothing. They are sitting ducks. We can destroyed them with a few bombs. The soldiers on them would die of thirst in a few days. I know I wouldn't want to be stationed on one when war breaks out.

China is surrounded by enemies. If the South Koreans don't break ranks, they Chinese will be contained.

With failing demographics and the precarious financially situation of the Chinese economy, China is the paper tiger, not America. Chinese money is flooding out of China and into America. Maybe rich Chinese know something that most other Chinese do not?

Scratching my head regarding Duterte's pronouncement. Is he counting on Americans to defend the Philippines? If so, leave the public threats to President Trump. Philippine history is a tale of corruption and squalor. A friend recently visited and reports little change since WWII. Even recovering Marcos' offshore cash would not cure what ails the Philippine population.
China continues to brazenly prepare for world domination. (Wonder where soros stands on this march?) Thousands of troops and bombers. Trawling for offshore minerals seems doubtful. The world powers have watched this buildup for some time. Now China's aggressive intent is blatantly obvious.
Israel is escalating. Syrian fighting goes on. Iran and Turkey plot. Africa embroiled in continuous uprisings and migrant movements. John's war predictions are well justified.
