Seems to me we spent quite a few years in Vietnam as "advisors", but those advisors did a lot of actual fighting. Advisors are not an "occupying force".

Social networks, ahem. Recalls to me the time I managed to get a "you don't have to file taxes" troll to admit that he not only filed his personal income tax, but he did it so he'd get the unearned tax credit and take in a check he didn't work for. Did not increase his popularity a whit on a forum devoted to independance and personal security.
