I've added an "update" paragraph to the article to clarify. You're
right that I put too much emphasis on the "Buddhism" aspect.
However, surely you can't believe that India and China have no issues to fight about.
Pakistan is India's mortal enemy, and China has unambiguously taken Pakistan's
side on the bitter Kashmir/Jammu issue, and other border issues.

In fact, India has stated that it's preparing to fight a war on "two
and one half fronts" -- meaning simultaneous wars with Pakistan and
China, at the same time as managing an internal counter-insurgency
effort.
China and Pakistan are preparing for the same war, and Sri Lanka will
be a strategic asset for China.
