Does the US recognize the Vatican City as an explicitly Catholic state? Just curious, and I don't know the answer. I really can't see what difference it makes to the US if we said Israel is a Jewish state or not, or if Palestine said Israel is a Jewish state or not, it is what it is, and that's entirely an internal affair. It all seems to me like they are putting symbols ahead of reality in order of importance.

As a disclaimer, I think every single group involved in the Israel/Palestine mess has behaved atrociously, and I take no sides with any of them. Every human should be able to live their lives in relative peace, and nobody in that region can do so, on any side.

Another marker for generational change is the evolution of pornography in the US. We started in the very beginning of the Boomer era, with very vanilla images from Playboy and Esquire. This evolved into the spread of x-rated movie theaters, and then to the direct dispensing of porn via the internet. With each step, it got further from reality, and moved from arty poses to some nihilistic stuff that's pretty degrading to everyone as we moved into Gen X. Now we see resistance to this from the new generation. I'd expect a severe cut back on this wide open sort of pornography over the next decade or so, and then again the fight against the rules, etc.
