Yeah, it does seem like xenophobia and hatred is going up on both sides. It'd be nice if they could come up with some way to ease tensions, but based on what I've seen over the past year, I find it rather unlikely. The tensions between native Europeans and immigrants seems to be in France, where Muslims make up about ten percent of the population and nearly 30 percent of their under-thirty population.

I wonder if the fact that Markel's efforts is not helping Sarkozy is another sign that times are changing. Seeing a foreign official campaigning on behalf of a president in the United States... well, I think we'd react rather badly to that.
