Imagine that the US gets hyperinflation. The problem is the Federal debt and deficit are out of control. Alaska and Texas both produce lots of oil. In hyperinflation the price of oil will shoot up, so it would be clear that these two states would both be better off if they were independent. If one of them votes for independence, what would happen next?
