Re: Today's Blog - High Oil prices caused by China's growth

Marsh, if you could point to any articles on theoildrum that discuss modeling of complex system energy flows as mentioned in the post I made above, it would be appreciated. I don't read any peak oil sites, but am aware of the general theory from reading Jay Hanson's dieoff over a decade ago. I will...

Re: Today's Blog - High Oil prices caused by China's growth

This is a very interesting insight, and I've never seen it expressed before. John, It is interesting that most of the people on the oildrum.com have read you but you are apparently unaware of them. They are mostly energy professionals who are concerned with the so called "Peak Oil" issue. It's rela...

Re: Geopolitical topics

Yes, but my point is, limiting the vocabulary to 1500 words is a ridiculous idea. Maybe making the 1500 words the "beginners list" for learning English would be a good idea. You are right, but it's not a plan, it just happened. The person who is credited with it's discovery didn't invent it. There ...

Re: Geopolitical topics

And India is a former British colony, by the way. Just thought you'd like to know, because the world does not consist solely of Britain and its former colonies. Of course India was colony of England. That is the point, India, is choosing to use English (actually it's the American form not the UK fo...

Re: Geopolitical topics

I have been traveling on a project for about one year, mostly to Europe. It's true and strange to see two non-native English speakers conversing in broken simplistic English, but that's what you see (hear). Even stranger is India, which has many local (regional) dialects, and the common national lan...

Re: Today's Blog - High Oil prices caused by China's growth

At the risk of an arcane discussion which John did clean up rather nicely, There never was a shortage of oil in the market. Did you have to wait in line for gas? Did you hear about any real significant shortages world wide? Actually There were shortages as well as entire countries priced out of buyi...

Re: Today's Blog - High Oil prices caused by China's growth

Panic? likely, fear? Absolutely. Commodities went through the roof because of fear, certainly. However, high oil prices over the last number of years were mostly due to easy credit and social mood and the easy flow of money into almost every corner of the market (the same social mood that turned in...

Re: Financial topics

There is "big picture" and then "BIG picture". You are obviously alluding to comments I have made, but I think mis-characterizing them. In the "BIG" picture - the Great Depression itself was a "minor speed bump" along the path of relentless, exponential, unending, technological improvement. So ther...
