I think this is going to be a bad thing.
There is no such thing as an unlimited right to anything. Go print some kiddie porn, or start a religon that requires ten year old marriages, or ask a guy in prison if he has the right to liberty. You'll get in jail or a quick NO, in a hurry. Apparently, the SCOTUS disagrees: http://www.foxnews.com/...

Re: Financial topics
Couple of points here, first, there's no indication I've seen that the Fed is willing to endlessly inflate the dollar. That's rhetoric, and vs the fact that they've pulled money out of the economy several times in the last couple of decades. The money shock that came after Y2K was over is a good exa...

Gaining mass would push it up the main sequence, which means greater luminosity - IOW, hotter. Same dance, different song. The outer planet location thing is not very logical. Mass tides on the surface of the sun aren't going to be much, even less than on the surface of Earth. The tide from Jupiter ...

Pretty much what I was thinking when I read John's analysis. He was right, up to where he started thinking in terms of FDR or Teddy or JFK. That's not what I sense the electorate is looking for, the electorate is looking for Huey Long. And that's going to be a disaster.

The money came from savings and retirement money fund accounts, as the rates dropped towards zero, the retirees went to the market as they couldn't face the choices of cutting their lifestyles or dipping into principle. So they chose risk, after all, didn't the crash "prove" you'd always get your mo...

Re: Financial topics
The fake gold scams come around every time there is a major jump in the price of gold. Gold is itself in a bubble now, and there will be major problems with the metal in the not very distant future. One huge one is that fractional reserve selling (to coin a phrase) is apparently taking place on the ...

Re: Singularity and Generational Dynamics
Well, it does show something quite interesting to me, the US and much of the world that survives WWIII will be just at the edge of an awakening period as the singularity goes into full acceleration. Will the new generation happily welcome the robots as the relievers of human drudgery or will they da...

Re: Climate Change
Solar activity over the long term will increase (IOW, the sun will become hotter at the surface and expand slowly) as it does for every yellow dwarf main sequence star. In fact, some calculations show the earth has less than 100 million years left, before the sun heats up enough to start boiling wat...

As costs go up, recycling increases. Gold, for example, has been 99%+ recycled for millenia. If you have any gold items, it's a certain bet that some of those gold atoms were present in gold worn by Cleopatra. Peaking production does not mean instant reduction in production. We've got a long (decade...
