Tim Geithner on Charlie Rose

http://www.charlierose.com/view/interview/10137

He mentions the word "generations" around the 22 minute mark. Of course, he still doesn't get it.

My visceral dislike and mistrust of him continues. He comes across as an Ivy League-class huckster.

Re: Financial topics

Re: Financial topics

I am wondering if you should take the public advice of anyone from Goldman Sachs? Abby Jo had the SPX at 1800 by the end of 2001. They had oil to $200 by the end of last summer. It appears they are top callers more often than target callers. The gold game is an interesting one in that higher or low...

Chinese Consumers Loosen Their Fists Now overlay the last story with this one, and then compare the attitudes of citizens towards savings here (or in Japan) versus the conspicuous consumption culture we celebrate. It is one stark difference - people who act like this in America are viewed as "strang...

Paul Volcker is back, and he warns of tough times ahead: In speeches, interviews, public policy reports and congressional testimony, Volcker, 81, has laid out a fairly clear outline of what he thinks is wrong with the present-day financial system and the government's management of the economy. His c...

Re: Financial topics

Matt -- is that because you feel we'll have a sustained rally in the interim, due to euphoria / mass optimism because of Obama election? Or, do you think it's because this downturn / depression will be worse than you were originally thinking?

November 1, 2008 Fear of Deflation Lurks as Global Demand Drops By PETER S. GOODMAN As dozens of countries slip deeper into financial distress, a new threat may be gathering force within the American economy — the prospect that goods will pile up waiting for buyers and prices will fall, suffocating ...

Re: Inflation, deflation, gold and currencies

I should state that I do not agree with Don Luskin or others that we're entering an inflationary period or that gold will shoot up as a result. I do own some physical gold, mainly as a shit hits the fan type of measure. I just don't see it. This is anecdotal (and hardly scientific) but I'm Pakistani...
