Github Acquisition

Wizard of Cambridge, please enlighten us on your views of Microsoft's acquisition. Will this be a good thing for developers long term or will they wreck the platform?

The acquisition shouldn't have any effect at all on ordinary
developers. Microsoft is a good company with a respect for open
source code, and github is used be thousands of its own developers, so
if it did anything to screw up github, the backlash would be enormous
both inside and outside of microsoft.

For developers who are already using Microsoft development tools,
they'll probably see better integration with github.

However, the real issues are more political, having to do with
censorship of code that competes with Microsoft products, or which
will bring demands from the government of China to remove.

That reminds me,.. John-O, have you written anything about the Chinese "benevolent societies" (!?) that have gotten rather cozy with the "powers that be" within various countries (such as New Zealand and Australia) and are making trouble for "rightly anti-Chinese" organizations?
