Re: Generational Dynamics World View News
I don't believe a word the Chinese say on the Coronavirus. Supposedly the number of new infections has fallen to 20-30 a day, but they lie every time they open their mouths. Funny how so many who claim the United States lies all the time accept Iran and China's word as gospel. I wouldn't doubt the actual number of fatalities are in the tens of thousands.
Where I live, we're not badly affected yet, but they're already starting to shut down major events. Ball games are cancelled, a local celebration was canceled, and people are worried. No way to get your hands on hand sanitizer.
I wonder what the diplomatic repercussions are going to be. If China's claiming this to be an American bioweapon (And I'm seeing people I know on FB believe this), this could lead to a casus belli for war. They covered this up for months, which at least some people in government ought to be aware of. That they're trying to blame us for this tells me China is desperate.

- Ingredients
- 3 TB 190 proof alcohol or at least 120 proof or rubbing alcohol or witch hazel (the original recipe called for witch hazel, however, alcohol is considered the best)
- 1 TB aloe vera (this is to prevent hands from drying out from the alcohol)
- 1/2 tsp vegetable glycerin or vitamin E oil
- 20 drops tea tree essential oil
- 10 drops lavender essential oil
Be amused by your friends (I certainly am!), but perhaps a better grade of "friends" is in order for you, eh?... If China's claiming this to be an American bioweapon (And I'm seeing people I know on FB believe this), this could lead to a casus belli for war. ...
..I'd be calling them "acquaintances" if I were you. Jus' sayin'....

** 14-Mar-2020 World View: Herd immunity: Get coronavirus infection to get it over with
to get it over with and return to normal life?
This strategy would seem to have a great deal of appeal, especially to
young people who typically do not become seriously sick. Once you're
over it, you can stop worrying about touching your face and washing
your hands, and just get on with life. Even for old people like
myself, it's tempting to get it over with one way or the other.
There are officials in the UK who are proposing exactly this strategy
on a mass basis for the entire population. It's called "herd
immunity." Let the entire population of a town become infected, and
then the town is immune.
According to psychologist Dr David Halpern, this herd immunity
strategy may become necessary, as more and more people become
infected:
young people, and after they recover, let all the old people out.
Interesting strategy.
It seems likely that, sooner or later, every person in the world will
be exposed, and the spread of the virus will only be stopped when a
vaccine becomes available and widely deployed, most likely some time
late in 2021. So when coronavirus starts spreading through a town,
the herd immunity strategy -- lock up the old people and let the young
people get sick -- might be the only possible strategy.
All of this is based on one huge assumption: If you get sick from
coronavirus and recover, then you'll be immune from reinfection.
This assumption has not been proven, and it's being debated. It seems
likely that a patient is immune from reinfection immediately after
recovery. But how long does that immunity last? It might be years,
but it might be only months or weeks. Also, even if you remain
immune, then there might be new strains. According to Anthony
Costello, a pediatrician and former World Health Organization
director:
Covid-19 continues to spread exponentially, a lot of places will have
to use the herd immunity strategy whether they want to or not.
P.S.: Some speculation: This isn't mentioned in any of the sources,
but there's good reason to believe that this strategy is being used
all across China. We know that coronavirus cases in rural areas are
not being reported, so it seems possible that the Chinese are letting
everyone get infected, and then see who survives.

John, if you do decide to drink from the silver cup and ride that highway in the sky, could you do us a favor? Update the State of the World diagram one more time before you check out.

Re: Generational Dynamics World View News
So what do we do with all the people who have filled up the hospitals everyday before Covid-19? These are the people who have strokes, heart attacks, moms having babies, got burned in a fire, shot, stabbed, in a car wreck or other accident, cancer patients, the people who got the regular flu and are currently on ventilators, etc. etc. etc. Don't forget, these people will also die if they don't get hospitalized. Multiply your death numbers.

They are simply part of the people that need hospitalization.Guest wrote:So what do we do with all the people who have filled up the hospitals everyday before Covid-19? ...
The goal of any strategy to deal with all these people needing hospitalization is to "flatten the curve" such that there are as few people that need hospitalization at any one instant as possible.
Here are some "die rolls" (in the RPG sense of the phrase):
It seems any one person has a 70ish% chance of catching "it" during the present "season".
It seems 88% (of the 70ish%) will have only mild to very mild symptoms.
This means 12% (of the 70ish%) will have serious-ish symptoms.
It seems .5% to 3.5% (of the 70ish%) will die, depending on "the curve".
"The Curve" shows the instantaneous "percentage" of the saturation of the capacity of "limited life saving services" (ventilators),.. and the goal is to make that curve as low as possible by making it longer as necessary.
In other words: Keep the rush hour traffic to a minimum by stretching out the commute over more time.
Testing is no longer the most important thing to do, if it ever actually was.
Keeping the "youth" away from vulnerable oldsters is the #1 thing to do. Period.
It makes no sense to even worry about the 88% (of the 70ish%) with "mild" symptoms, as they don't take up ANY of the life saving resources that the 0.5% to 12% (of the 70ish%) will need.
You can figure out where you lie in those stats, but (EVERYONE) STAY THE F*** AWAY from vulnerable oldsters,.. unless you are actively trying to kill them.
..and quite a few people out there are, sad to say.

Re: Generational Dynamics World View News
I personally think this "isolate the vulnerable and infect all others" is the only strategy that makes sense, as well as being the inevitable "what will happen anyway" process that MUST and WILL happen of it's own accord.John wrote:** 14-Mar-2020 World View: Herd immunity: Get coronavirus infection to get it over with

This whole "controversy" about TESTING is utterly ridiculous, and simply a sign of desperation (and greed) on the part of politicos looking for "levers" to attack their pol enemies, and the general unthinking paranoia.
Testing has become a FETISH! At this point in the epidemic (local aspect of the pandemic) testing is veritably completely irrelevant.
ALL funding that is being spent on testing needs to be applied to purchasing (making) ventilators. Period.
When will the "super rich" start putting down some BIG bucks, and make tens of millions of ventilators to score some serious "social points"!?
That's what WILL happen,.. and the sooner this fetish is dispensed with the better!
And his "re-explanation" of the vid above:
