No peace in the valley for Ethiopia or Eritrea. In 1991 14,325 Jews were airlifted to Israel in 36 hours, Operation Moses. I know people from both Ethiopia and Eritrea. Those who are now Americans sacrificed at great risk to leave nations in constant tribal conflict.
Living conditions are minimalist. Many of those Ethiopians and Eritreans who live in America have assimilated. A few Christian congregations have adopted villages and provide tangible and consistent support.
Again this situation highlights tribal cultures and the difference between "undocumented migrants" and true seekers of asylum and new lives as Israelis, Americans, etc. Ethiopian reforms are overdue. Freedom is not a well-defined term or concept in Ethiopia or Eritrea. Perhaps neither is equality a goal.
