Happy New Year, everybody!

To continue a DaKardii tradition, here are the top 20 most powerful countries in 2024, according to Global Power Index published by the Pardee Center for International Futures.
According to the same source, China should surpass the US in 2031. Enjoy another seven years of the US being the number one power!

Could be longer if the oft predicted and projected China collapse fully manifests?

Bob's on to something. There won't be anything like an orderly continuation of the present order. #1 on the list is an ally to #3-10. #2 is quickly aligning with Russia, Iran and North Korea,
In order to create a New World Order.

This is what Navigator predicted and it's a reasonable assumption. Look at the new missile defense in Guam.
Also predicted by this professor is the necessity of a US-Russia alignment against China. In league with the GD prediction of several decades past. Iran as well. Many cannot fathom through their hatred how we could possibly be aligned with Iran and Russia. But it's quite clear if you look closely.

A progressive projection?

From a progressive point of view, it is more like the autocratic leaders painted themselves into corners. The conservative temptation to force their own culture on others and surround themselves with yes men has led them astray in various ways. Putin has military problems, Xi economic, and Trump legal. This makes the formation of a second more autocratic alliance very difficult. As usual, after a crisis progressive values are reinforced. This time the emphasis might be on containment and not harassing minorities.

But the Middle East is a mess right now. My crystal ball there is mighty hazy, though I suspect if Netanyahu lets the shooting stop he will lose power again real quick. Can Iran get any of its other proxies to jump? Will Hamas spread its hatred of Israel, or will the people of Gaza think continuing Hamas policies futile, deadly, destructive and otherwise problematic? Anyway, mighty hazy.

We are now tightly allied with the Axis powers of WW II. Autocratic countries going democratic is more probable than one might think. It depends on how spectacular the autocratic leader's failures are. There are a lot of folk that will end up sitting on a pile of ashes thinking on how their crisis policies didn't work. That is how values change.

The Danes have been logging which migrants contribute least and most to the Danish public purse.

Danish government official figures show that Danes and European migrants are net contributors to the public purse, but at no point in their life cycle are migrants and their descendants from the Middle East, North Africa, Pakistan and Turkey. We don’t hold the same level of data in the UK but income tax data we do publish suggest a similar story would apply here.

Bangladeshis receive more in child benefit and tax credits than they pay in income tax and National Insurance, for example, and that is before we get into the cost of education, housing, healthcare, pensions and so on.

Seventy-two per cent of Somalis here live in social housing. Fifty-seven per cent of Bangladeshi and Pakistani women are economically inactive. Forty-six per cent of Pakistani-heritage babies born in Bradford have parents who are cousins.

The number of people unable to speak English well or at all has increased in the past 10 years by more than 20 per cent to more than a million.

It all paints a very clear picture.

Good to see Dackardi is back, I was wondering if he had left for good. Have you guys seen the story of the head of the opposition party in S. Korea being stabbed in the neck. I saw the video and read some info but have been super busy and haven't seen anymore news. Did he die, if not what is his condition and outlook as far as recovering. What was the reason for the attack?

Also now that shipping from the Red Sea has been rerouted threw north Africa, the Somali pirates are starting to attack ships. As always I am interested in your thoughts.

The US navy is too busy defending Israel to care. And since America is a failing power, the US navy will no longer be able to keep the sea lanes open. China and Russia lack that ability to do it and the Royal navy is on par with Holland's. International trade is toast.
