I have read from a few sources that Presidents do not have a high enough security clearance to learn what is being worked on, and are not trusted, because they are public political animals.

Both the B2 and B1 bomber program were terminated after building only a tiny fraction of the airframes originally planed for production leaving 50 year old B52 bombers as the back bone of the bomber fleet until they are over 70 years old. The same with the F-22 program, for all the wrong reasons, the F-22 program was terminated, leaving the U.S., and the U.S. Navy, lacking both a long range, two engine, ground launched attack aircraft, and nothing but a hope that the F-35 grows range, reduced costs,

Just the opposite is true. B52s dropping gravity bombs, with GPS guided glide fins added, have become the planned heavy hitter of the U.S. strategic deterrent.
