EU backs down in Ukraine

Post by Reality Check »

Under threats from Russia, the European Union is reversing itself on the situation in the Ukraine.

The EU leadership had announced over the weekend that it was going to push forward, working together with the interim government of the Ukraine, to integrate Ukraine into the EU to the degree possible before new elections in the Ukraine take place.

Russia threatened to take action to protect "Russian Citizens" if the EU did not live up to the agreement the EU proposed, but Russia refused to sign, before the Russian backed President of the Ukraine fled the capital before the agreement could be implemented.

Russia has called the interim government the EU had already recognized as the legitimate government of the Ukraine, terrorists and illegitimate coup plotters.

In the face of thinly veiled threats from Russia, the EU leadership today reversed itself and announced it would not move forward on talks with the interim government in Ukraine, and instead, would wait until a new government, resulting from new elections, was in place to determine if the EU integration agreement, canceled by the pro-Russian President who fled his own capital, would be resurrected, or would remain dead.

"For the IMF and the financial elite, Ukraine is nothing less than a tantalizing bounty. “Its fertile black soil generated more than one-fourth of Soviet agricultural output, and its farms provided substantial quantities of meat, milk, grain, and vegetables to other republics,” notes ABO, a website covering energy resources. “Likewise, its diversified heavy industry supplied the unique equipment (for example, large diameter pipes) and raw materials to industrial and mining sites (vertical drilling apparatus) in other regions of the former USSR.”

a nice prize
