There may be a secret deal in the works: Russia puts it's invasion force on hold at the border - Kiev Govt. withdraws from eastern Ukraine or suspends it's assault on eastern militias and United States and EU refrain from any meaningful sanctions on Russia. This leaves anti-Kiev militias in charge of government buildings in eastern Ukraine, until Russia is again ready to change the conditions on the ground.
The statements coming out of Obama in Asia backing off on sanctions, and the stand down of Kiev government attacks on militias in eastern Ukraine, appear to support such secret U.S. to Russia negotiations going on.
You have to wonder if the Kiev government feels like the Czechoslovakian government did back in 1938 and 1939. In 1938 various "Great Powers" started deciding how pieces of Czechoslovakia were to be carved up and thrown to a brutal dictator one piece at a time, hoping the dictator would become full and peaceful, until the dictator was strong enough to devour all of Czechoslovakia in 1939 without asking permission and without any consequences.
