This reminds me of a financial stat from 1990 that's always stuck in
my mind: At that time, the value of the property in just the one city
of Tokyo was greater than the value of ALL the property in the entire
United States.

Of course, that was just before the bubble burst, leading to a huge
financial crisis, real estate bubble crash and stock market crash
in Japan.

I wrote a lengthy article on this in 2007:

** Japan's real estate crash may finally end after 16 years
** http://www.generationaldynamics.com/pg/ ... tm#e070220

This graph is from the article, showing the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE)
index. What it shows is that the TSE's previous crash was in 1919,
ten years before the US stock exchange crash in 1929.

That's not what happened during WW II. China's civil war began in
1934, but Mao and Chiang suspended the civil war after Japan invaded
in 1937, and resumed it in 1945. This is the "United Front" concept,
which survives to this day.

The North is firing rocket artillery again. Normally I wouldn't care, but after reading this blog, I do. People in my office all read your blog (or translations of it), and we are all worried. Can we expect die soon?

Lol! You'll probably live longer than I will!

Well, the bad news is that Kim has launched another short-range
missile. These missiles could reach Seoul, but not the US.

The good news is that Kim really has no particular reason to
attack Seoul at this time. Doing so would also attack US forces,
and bring about massive retaliation.

You know a lot better than I do how unpredictable Kim can be, and you
also know very well that for decades there have been a huge mass of
missiles just north of the DMZ, ready to be launched at Seoul.

My personal view is that, when the time comes, Kim will join China in
attacking Japan. There'll surely be a new war between North and South
Korea, but that will come later.

In the meantime, Kim is still very young, and he's been out of the
news since his last meeting with Trump. So firing off a short-range
missile is his way of saying "I'm still here! Look at me!"

So you have a little time left! Enjoy!

..yeah,.. so THERE...!!

..is there a St. Malthus mentioned in the Catechism?

Look at all my trials and tribulations
Sinking in a gentle pool of wine
What's that in the bread it's gone to my head
Till 'this morning' is 'this evening', life is fine

Always hoped that I'd be an apostle
Knew that I would make it if I tried
Then when we retire we can write the gospels
So they'll all talk about us when we die

Iran on the Brink:

Are we finally witnessing the end of the Islamic Republic? Yes, but not immediately. It is only a matter of time -- and not a very long one either.
