Actually, on second thought, an akin situation came up. When I had my brain tumor a while back, they asked in advance what should be done if something went wrong with the operation and I wound up brain dead. This was apparently not entirely hypothetical. Should they attempt drastic measures to keep my body with a semblance of life, or should they pull the plug if they could foresee no happy resolution? Also they asked me to identify a health proxy, someone who could interpret my wishes and make a decision. I nominated my younger sister, a former nurse.
Should myself, my sister and my doctors make such a decision, or should the government impose a one size fits all edict? I would say our present system is correct. Choice. Are you so sure of your own opinion that you would try to impose it? The question is often religious and cultural. It will vary highly. The concept of freedom should mean something.
