No one is saying there is no threat from North Korea. The North Korean Threat is of an invasion of the south and Possible mass launch of WMDs by Kim if He is defeated/we intervene. There is no "red dawn" threat, that is never been what the North Korean threat is. If you think negotiations are impossible lets fight the second Korean war NOW. If not then Let South Korea and Japan develop their own nukes then, they have the economy and military infrastructure to defend themselves without US involvement. If fighting a second Korean war against Pyongyang, and all evidence says it would be necessary, then it will be a hard fight, the hardest since at least the Korean war and possibly WW2, and we would lose a lot of our boys in that fight, but we would ultimately Crush the NORKs. Regarding Trump, President Trump is the one forcing through negotiations with Kim, much of the bureaucracy is favoring a first-strike. Our Carrier battle groups, Subs, and Bombers are still operating on their peacetime schedules and Rotations, there is no evidence of an actual force mobilization.

Judging from their conduct of the Current trade war, the Chinese are aware of the distinction between "reds" and "blues", if war breaks out they will engage against primarily "red" areas. Reds using blues as "human shields" will not work, any remotely competent adversary would see through such a gambit. The Attempt by "reds" to leverage political, economic, geopolitical and military currents to force a "Southernization" of the US will likely not succeed, Most Americans like being culturally "Yankees" and do not like "Dixie" culture.

You appear to MASSIVELY overestimate the military strength of the former while significantly underestimating the Military capabilities of the Latter. The US as 12 Carrier battle groups, supported by several new Japanese Carriers, the Chinese only have one. The US has 14 ohio Class SSBNs, the Chinese only have one equivalent sub. The Chinese Pla and PLAN combined have about 3500 aircraft, However the US navy alone has 3700 aircraft, and thats before we even mention the US air force.

Unless kim has develop secret ABM tech, or the NORKs have perfected Rotation to underground infrastructure, then he could launch a missile. Absent these prerequisites, then it would be suicide for him to launch. The Only Exception if he somehow gets the unconditional support of both China and Russia. And that would cause a much larger war than just North Korea vs the US. Regarding Xi, remember that Xi Jinping is somewhat of a loose-cannon in Chinese politics, Most of the established power-brokers there are a lot less Philo-Asiatic/Pro-Russian than he is, a lot of those power brokers in china desire a more Asia-Centric Chinese policy.
