economic data out of China is extremely bad, in multiple sectors, including retail, consumer, real estate, this morning.

analyst s are increasingly attributing China's economic failures to xi jinplnng disastrous covid zero policy, which causes authorities to shut dowanentire city or apartment block if there is even one case of covid detected. the result of this policy is that China has been playing whack-a-mole with covid as it shuts down one place,, and so forth.

there's an amusing story coming out of a in Ikea store in Shanghai. the store was crowded, and apparently a rumor started spreading that a covid case was detected. according to the report, the people in the store started screaming and running for the doors, in order to get out before the storms locked down.


central banks around the world are raising interest rates to fight inflation, but this morning People's Bank of China pboc surprise everyone by cutting interest rates by a small amount. this is obviously not enough China's economic problems, and more must be done, especially with the covid zero policy. however xi ping has met his reputation on covid 0 policy, and it's failure could mean the end of his dictatorship, unless he deflects the problem by invading taiwan.

this analysis is based on discussions on CNBC and Bloomberg tv.

Statements like this, on this forum, makes no sense. You all keep applying logic to actions. As we have learned from John, their actions will not be logical... have you learned anything from this site?

Zero COVID is extremely illogical. Political consideration trumped economics.
As John has correctly noted, the CCP is a lunatic organization. And they're increasing pressed on many sides. A stress release will cause what they hope to be a contained eruption somewhere. Have they not shown clearly enough the use of military methods to solve political difficulties? It's certainly not blustering the pronouncements of the CCP. In the past, they couldn't but now they can and will.

Actually, FullMoon, they just think they can, so they will...and then find out they can't (not that they won't cause the biggest disaster since the Black Death in the process).
