China has ended its covid zero policy, which has meant that an entire city or portion of a city could be lockef down if there are even one case of COVID detected. there are no more lockdowns, many people are relieved.
however, covet is now spreading rapidly in many cities, and the number of deaths may be in the millions. China's economy is currently very depressed.
according to analyst on Bloomberg TV, China's economy will remain depressed through the lunar New Year celebrations, and through March or April. however, by that time, COVID will have burned itself out, and China's economy will make a strong recovery.

Ending the lockdown strategy without bringing in the western vaccines is going to kill a lot of people and make the CCP very unpopular. We will have to see if the CCP can hang on until spring.

It will burn out in several months in China, even though it has not burned out in the West after several years?

There's plenty of evidence to show China is having severe problems. How about the most insane property bubble in history deflating quickly? Or an export dependent country with hostile customers becoming more cash strapped with high inflation and recession? The newly crowned leader assumed his position on the merits of his personal zero COVID strategy, only to give it up a month later? Something is very wrong with that country and the article addresses the long term importance of properly dealing with a failed state.
We can only hope Xi goes the way of Mao and keeps the forthcoming destruction within their own borders. Their time frame for military expansion rather than internal collapse is just about up and perhaps this spring we'll see more clearly in which direction they are heading.

That's interesting, thanks Tom.
China is doing the sensible early preparations for war he says, such as securing energy and food, together with clamping down heavily on domestic information and creating a xenophobic population with the narrative of bad outside people who've historically oppressed them,
Interesting that they're rapidly reducing oil dependence from sea routes and supplementing with Russian oil. I wonder if those pipelines will be safe, as we're seeing lots of Russian pipelines mysteriously get damaged or destroyed.
