They could, but HIGHLY unlikely for the following reasons:

1. We have a defense treaty with South Korea. We don't have one with Taiwan. China would love to grab Taiwan without triggering a major war (which will happen anyway), but they would like to have this route.

2. N Korea cannot have any chance against S Korea without major Chinese assistance. China moving such assistance to N Korea would set off major alarms and US responses that the Chinese don't want to trigger until war starts.

3. The US sending troops to S Korea would cause the US defense posture to change from passive to active. This takes time, and the Chinese would prefer that we not be in the process of mobilization already when they attack Taiwan.

A much more likely scenario is that China has N Korea start war with South at same time, or shortly after they go after Taiwan (say after US response is clear, and that US decides to get involved). War in Korea would allow them to dilute US aid/support to Taiwan, and it would give them a better position from which to also attack Japan.

I'm wondering, how soon will we know that the invasion of Taiwan is coming? On another forum, I read of Russia preparing for war well before the Ukraine invasion, and Taiwan would be logistically even worse. How long would it take for China to mass up the forces before moving (and remember, it would have to be a spring or fall invasion)?

** 06-Apr-2023 World View: Paris riots and possible Israel-Hezbollah war

Some stories from this morning's tv
news.

Riots in Paris are continuing over the
proposal to raise the retirement age
from 62 to 64. In the meantime,
Emmanual Macron is in Beijing,
pretending to be an international
mediator over the Ukraine war.

Israel and Hamas have been exchanging
low-level fire for a few days, but it
suddenly escalated today with missiles
attacking Israel from southern Lebanon.
The concern is a possible renewal of the
2006 was between Israel and Hezbollah,
and this time Hezbollah is several times
more powerful than in 2006, thanks to
weapons supplied from Iran.

The French want things both ways; they will end up with nothing.

Bibi will do anything to avoid prison, including turning Israel into ultra orthodox hell hole or starting (a) major war(s).

This week’s Economist magazine focused on the Chinese-American situation.

Economist is a pro-Democrat magazine. I doubt that they have
anything important to say. Let us know if they do.

Well, there is one pro-Democrat propaganda machine that actually had something important to say yesterday:

Ukraine War Plans Leak Prompts Pentagon Investigation
https://www.nytimes.com/2023/04/06/us/p ... ussia.html

Note the key part: the actual ratio of Russian casualties to Ukrainian casualties is about 1:4.5 in Russia's favor, not the 2:1 favoring Ukraine that the "officials" made up. And they are, of course, trying to pass off the real numbers as "disinformation" while attempting in vain to scrub the leak from social media.

Russia is winning the war. And our government can no longer stop us from knowing it.
