Bob Butler, in the way that he presents himself, is sort of the last vestige of liberalism not yet personally gone awry. He remains blissfully unaware. The chickens have not yet come home to roost for him. When I read Bob, I can still get that last little drop of what's left of that delusional early 1990s feeling.
Blissfully Unaware

Thanks for that. Finally we've more clearly defined the nice old guy who doesn't see where he himself sits in history.
And there's lots of people like this.
They enable child mutation and enable the individual states to let teenagers freely choose to castrate themselves because they " feel" like another gender. IMAGINE THAT! They feel like they're not quite themselves. Teenagers...

Just to be clear, I have no uncle called Yeeles.
I see recent crises as between a conservative viewpoint that wishes to resist change, and a progressive one that wishes to remove obvious flaws. These flaws could include a noble privilege, slavery, autocratic conquest, prejudice against minorities, or even Covid. Some want the flaws to continue. They might be said to be blissfully unaware that the features that are fighting for are flaws in the eyes of some.

There are millions of blissfully unaware Uncle Bobs in America. It's almost cliche, as the book sort of illustrates.
My daughter has one too. Her blissfully unaware Uncle Bob is a conservative.
In the 1990s, when considering the possibility of a future civil war, my daughter's Uncle Bob told me, no problem, he could just put a spear on the front of his Hummer and drive around and spear people. I think the idea was the spear could be long enough to stack bodies.
No kidding, he really said that. After the delusional 1990s, though, he no longer said that and now he doesn't say much at all. Maybe it's because he's almost deaf from listening to rock and roll in his early years.

FIGHTING FOR what?
You acknowledge that it's a fight. Because it is. Your brand of whatever is responsible for what's going on now and everyone knows that the picture is bleak. There's your flaws.
Blissfully unaware that your tirelessly working to make all these troubles even worse. Blissfully unaware by the Way

When the machete gangs break down the door to the bedroom and drag a cowering Butler out from under the bed, Butler will realize his mistakes. I predict Butler's last words will, 'Wait, please don't kill me! I'm on your side!"

Haha.
Yes that's where it would end amicably..
But it's more like the German's who realized only later the mistake which was painfully obvious for a long time. Something grossly out of touch and below levels what......I can only say are last ditch levels of human decency
