Bob Banned
It appears that the nemesis of logic, Bob Butler, has actually been banned from this discussion board.
This will mean that I, personally, will not have to make the same point three to four times, calmly and logically, and still end up being called names.
Goodbye Bob. Good luck. You'll need it.

Re: Generational Dynamics World View News
It appears that the odds in winning the Presidential Election have shifted to Kamala Harris.
Even conservative outlets have polls saying that she won the debate.
Trump should have been hammering Inflation/Economy, Illegal Immigration, and Afghan Fiasco since she became the nominee. Instead he focused on personal attacks. Then he blew it in the debate by going into the illegal immigrants eating pets bit. Which made him look like a crazy old man. And since there is no even crazier old man on the other side this time, he lost a lot of heretofore soft support.
I don't think there is much if any time to rectify this, since mail ballots will go out shortly.
On top of this, Trump is telling the House Speaker to cut off government funding unless the other side agrees to voter validation requirements. Which they won't.
If you want to win an election, you can NEVER be seen as the one cutting off government spending. Who do you think will benefit if the Republicans are seen as holding up Social Security checks? If those checks stop, those responsible will face an overwhelming backlash. BTW, the last time this actually happened was in the Clinton administration, and it nearly killed the Republican party back then.
Bottom line is that we are now more likely than not to be looking at a Kamala Harris administration, which will make the fiascos of the Obama years (I cannot think of a single thing he did correctly) look like a cake walk.
Any advantages we have in an upcoming confrontation with China/Russia/Iran will be blown in the most idiotic manner imaginable if she is President.

I'm holding out hope, Navigator.
My rationale?
There cannot POSSIBLY be that many stupid clueless people in this country.
And if there are, then they are the real problem, not the election per se. And we are really f**ked.

Unfortunately, we get the leadership we collectively deserve.
If the majority wants abortion, and that is what tips the election, we will have to suffer the consequences of making evil decisions.
And, unfortunately, the vast majority of people make electoral decisions based on only a minute or two of information. Yes, its that bad.

Holding out hope won't do you any good. We're in for a very rough ride, if we're lucky. Maybe almost everyone is being willfully ignorant of the reality that without healthy social cohesion we get serious imbalances and disturbance/diseases of society. No single politician can rectify the built up myriad intractable problems slamming into us from all directions. We're looking at a slate-cleaning period of time that's painful and completely socially disruptive.spottybrowncow wrote: Wed Sep 11, 2024 7:47 pm I'm holding out hope, Navigator.

I caught the highlights of the debate, though I was at work when it was going on. From everything I've gathered, Kamala did a little better than Trump, but not hugely so, and even moderates are commenting about how biased the moderators were. If Trump had hammered Kamala's record... but he's never been able to resist getting into petty feuds and insults.
I doubt it's going to make much difference with the election. Debates don't move the needle much unless you have either an amazing night, or you blow it completely. It's not so much that Trump did well last time as it is that Biden imploded.

I'm honestly reminded of the trainwreck of Presidents we had in the leadup to the Civil War. I truly wish I had a choice that didn't involve these bozos, but Kamala was chosen for being a black woman, and Trump because his base is still devoted to him. Millard Filmore, Franklin Pierce, James Buchanan... my opinion of Obama isn't as low as Navigator's, but I'd rank him as maybe a C if I'm feeling generous. I doubt Hillary would have been better if she'd won.
The Civil War was likely inevitable, but it's hard not to wonder what if... it would have taken someone truly extraordinary to prevent things from blowing up, or at least make the resulting outcome less tragic. Buchanan... wasn't it, and Pierce spent most of his Presidency drinking himself to death.
Once everything hits the fan, I expect we'd eventually get our act together, but we'd endure several vicious blows before that happens.

Whatever the outcome in November, I doubt the losing side will accept it. Imagine if Trump manages to win again, horrifying the left and its institutions. History didn't begin on January 6, however much the left likes to believe otherwise. We've already had one assassination attempt that very nearly took Trump out. You've already got stories of ballot irregularities and any victory is likely to be by a slim margin. Say Kamala becomes President... many Republicans I know believe Biden's machine stole the election.
A lot of what's happening is the usual bluster, but this is something that genuinely worries me. If you have enough people believe that their opponents cheated whenever they lost, if people can't trust the voting process, that will doom our Republic. Whenever I mention the Democrats insisting Trump was illegitimate, including trying to convince electors not to go along with the state's vote, I'll hear all kinds of excuses about how this is different because of some list of excuses. It amounts to: "Well, Trump deserves it!" And then a few accusations about how I'm an alt-right/KKK Nazi being brainwashed.
I haven't forgotten what happened in the Roman Republic.

Hi guys, the debate is an example as to how some of you guys don't see a large part of what is happening. You guys know more about history and military affairs than I know but on other things I know more. Take Trump talking about the illegals in Springfield Ohio eating peoples pets, you guys think this was an epic blunder. I see this as a brilliant move because it unleashes the Streisand effect, for those of you who don't know what that is do a web search on it. Guess what is happening since that debate, people are looking into that and finding out more info on what illegals are doing not only in Springfield but in other places. These are stories that the msn has been ignoring so that Americans won't find out just how bad things really are. Her surge in support was all fake and Trump had already started to pull ahead before the debate. Polls have started to come out since the debate showing Trump leading her by more now and showing that more people saw him as the winner and that the debate was rigged against him. Polls are also showing that independents also see him as the winner of the debate and that his support amongst them has grown after the debate. It is now to the point that Nate Silver the Democrats favorite pollster is now giving Trump a better than 60% chance of winning the election an showing that he made his biggest gains in support in battle ground states like Michigan and Pennsylvania. I've known for a couple of years that if it's a fair election Trump wins because I live a different life than most of you and I look for different things than most people look for when they do research and try to get information. The pet eating story is actually true but they are not just eating the pets and wildlife, they are also using them for sacrifices and it's not just in Springfield Ohio and in the US. I have seen stories and videos of this happening in other US cities and in Europe as well. I also have a lot of experience with not just Haitians but people from all over the world so when I hear stories like illegals are eating pets I don't dismiss them as lies, I actually get to work finding out if there is some truth to it and usually I find out that it is true or that there is some truth to the story.

By the way I saw a video claiming that China was going to send 18,000 soldiers to Russia to help them with Ukraine.

A standard google search gives a plethora of results saying Haitians don't eat cats or dogs. But let's narrow the search to results before August 31, 2024, then look at what was posted on reddit specifically, since a lot came up there.thinker wrote: Fri Sep 13, 2024 10:58 pm Take Trump talking about the illegals in Springfield Ohio eating peoples pets, you guys think this was an epic blunder.

Once that is done, all the recent flap is filtered out and what is left shows what was available before it was buried by the recent news. From there, pictures of Haitians killing and roasting cats can be found.

Now I suppose the retort to that would be, "Oh, that only happens in Haiti, not in Springfield, Ohio!" In the town I lived in 30 or 40 years ago it was the unquestioned truth that recent Vietnamese immigrants who ate dogs in Vietnam ate them in America too.
While the periphery breaks down rather slowly at first, the capital cities of the hegemon should collapse suddenly and violently.

https://www.theatlantic.com/newsletters ... ct/679885/To say that Donald Trump is reckless with his public comments is about as big an understatement as you could make. But this week, we are watching the real-world effects of that recklessness play out with alarming speed.
There isn't much justification for many of the things Trump says. Either he's deliberately causing discord and trouble or he's incapable of speaking in a civilized manner. The Dems will put forward an unpopular candidate, undemocratically chosen by their elite, without a viable platform, with an odious demeanor and without a history of achievement. And she's got a good chance of winning merely because they'll take all these I'll chosen words, blow them up out of context and frame the former President as a bad person. Trump cannot stay on cue and keep his mouth shut.
