Thousands upon thousands of Russian Jews who failed to comply with the 1917 revolution, dodged forced conscription to the Red Army, were shot on sight or lined up before firing squads. Enough of them, tradesmen and small business owners, bribed their way out of Russia and made their way to America under hardship. They weren’t welcomed. Still… they remained hard anti-communists and salt-of-the-earth grocers, cobblers, whatever they could manage. Not different than what we see today among the Vietnamese immigrants who escaped communism. The middle class US Jews of Russian descent have a historical grudge against German Jewish neighbors over not just their more bourgeois backgrounds, but their leftist politics as well. A little history and humanity goes a long way towards contradicting knee jerk hatred. Most of the Jews I grew up with, worked alongside, and loved would stand right beside the rest of us and applaud seeing the ADL discredited into oblivion.

Nine or ten large gangs from other regions of Russia operate in Moscow (Bohlen 1993, Al).
