Genetic erosion or the loss of genetic diversity in domesticated species (in agroecosystems) and their wild relatives (mostly in natural ecosystems) have posed a serious challenge for sustainable crop production and agriculture (Wilson, 1989; Bellon et al., 1998; Fowler & Hodgkin, 2004). The occurrence of genetic erosion is largely due to factors such as the extensive adoption of a few high-yielding crop varieties cultivated on a large scale, the expansion of farming areas, change of agricultural styles, deforestation, urbanization, industrialization, and frequent disturbances to natural habitats by human activities. The same situation is true for wheat varieties.
