I can't understand why people are not freaked out by these figures. I can understand deluded investors thinking that 2022 earnings will be up 100% (projecting 2021 increases) but ordinary people won't be able to pay their bills.

People think the inflation will go away without interest rates ever getting over 2.5%. They are wrong.
At some point people will realize it.

The reason that a lot of people are not freaking out is because a lot
of people (including me) believe that the CPI is peaking now or soon,
and will start to fall. For example, yesterday right after the March
CPI was released, Jim Cramer on CNBC rattled off a list of components
that were falling in price, and said that he thought that the March
CPI might be the peak. He hedged because he said that the price of
food was still going up.
