There may have to be some sort of violence to overthrow the CCP. Until now, the people have been reluctant to embrace it. With the Chinese economy going south, the economic problems could trigger the violence. I'm hardly sure that will happen, but I'd like to think there is still a road from autocracy to democracy.
Taiwan, Japan, and Hong Kong are examples of Asian democracies. Taiwan and Hong Kong are Chinese democracies. Democracy not only works but liberal deomcracy allows people to thrive. Japan was far more autocractic than China, and yet it thrived under democracy. Of course there is a road from autocracy to democracy. There are other factors, but this is enough for now.
Hong Kong was long a British colony. Japan interacted with the US during and after World War II. Taiwan was somewhat under America's wing. I am a bit more concerned with cultures that went directly from kings and emperors to party chairmen without much intervention from the West. There are not enough examples of autocratic governments switching to democracy without interventions, no matter how unsatisfactory some of those interventions were. Democracy, good. Colonial Imperialism?

I agree that democracy is better than autocracy. I'm just not sure yet how the CCP, North Korea and others of that ilk will make the swap.

As an aside, I bumped into an internet video the other day that reviewed how the European Union was in effect scattered about the world. France never let go of it's old empire. There have been debates in the many former colonies about the pride of shaking off the last remnants of colonial imperialism and the advantages of being affiliated with the European Union.

John, how reckless do you think our government is when it comes to foreign policy, compared to that of China?

A lot I can say here, but I will focus on Taiwan. Taiwan was a dictatorship for decades. The Taiwanese came to democracy themselves. So the Chinese can go it alone.

Agreed Taiwan is as good an example of transitioning as we have. I'm not sure it is good enough. I'm nearly as concerned about the CCP as John, and North Korea is worse.

In Pentagon simulations China always wins on their turf. That's how they've designed their military. That's why there's not going to be any "war".

They won't get New Zealand though. New Zealand has Jacinda Ardern who is one of the best leaders the world has ever seen.

It's like day and night. I've often said that I don't know what the
CCP is going to do next, but I can guarantee that it will make the
situation worse. That's because the CCP is a dictatorship, with no
checks and balances. If Xi Jinping wants to do something stupid and
destructive, anyone who objects will be beaten, tortured and jailed.
I've frequently described how Mao's Great Leap Forward was one of the
stupidest policies of any country in the history of the world, killing
tens of millions of innocent Chinese and destroying China's economy so
much that it still hasn't recovered, but even when the policy was
obviously failing, Mao executed people who pointed that out. That's
what happens in a Communist dictatorship, or in any dictatorship, as
in the case of Hitler. So if Xi Jinping decides to do something
stupid or reckless, there will be no one to stop him.

America is completely different. The governmental processes are full
of checks and balances. If Trump or Biden wants to do something
stupid or reckless, he will be stopped by the checks and balances.

You mean like having different branches of government so a state's Supreme Court cannot change the way mail in ballots are counted conflicting with law passed by the legislative branch?

Haha, exactly. We live only in an economic environment just suitable enough for people to not go crazy - yet. Once it does, they will finally see the farce for what America has claimed to be, come full circle. I already know it is that way, and I was a patriot for most of my life. There aren't any institutions worth trusting anymore, so most Americans are full on cynics and materialists, if they themselves haven't been bought off by the system. For any intelligent or educated person (truly knowledgeable), it is clear that a large portion of our government has been bought by foreign entities, and that's on top of the corporate buying through "lobbying" we all already knew about. It's quite sad.

We basically only function (as a real country) inasmuch as the deep state, military, or old guard happens upon a decision that isn't totally an anti-American joke at this point.
