Something I would add to this is that right now, China has a relatively narrow window of opportunity. Their one-child policy is already causing major issues for them, and over the next few years, it's only going to amplify. For all our demographic difficulties, theirs is even worse. Their economy is slowing, and there's a question as to whether they are really growing at all by this point (I think it likely they're lying about their growth rate)

So if they want to seize the chance and become the new superpower, they'll have to do it soon.
