I'll agree with you about one thing -- "For what?" I've said this
before.
When you go through the nationalism and xenophobia, in the end, war
has only one purpose -- to get rid of enough people so that there's
enough food, water and other resources for the survivors. That's why
genocidal wars HAVE to occur at regular intervals.
So if you die, it will be so others may eat.
I'm sure you understand that you could die in a traffic accident. But
that doesn't keep you from leaving home every day.
So you have to live your life. If you really fear death, then try to
do something that will make your death worthwhile. And I don't mean
blowing yourself up in a terrorist attack.
I mean do something that will survive the war and you, so that you'll
have made the world a better place when the war ends. Find a cure for
cancer. Build an orphanage in Utah. Start a fund for elephants in
Africa. Something like that.
Or you could do something to help America win the war. This is, after
all, the greatest country in world history, and worth fighting for.
Most people go through life accomplishing nothing worthwhile, even a
long life. If you fear that you'll have only a short life, then make
sure that your short life is worth more than the long, wasted lives of
other people.
