Anyway: In the United States, hitting bottom meant that manufacturing was down 48 percent from what it had been in 1929, and that the prices farmers received for their products were down 44 percent. The stock market was down 80 percent from what it had been in 1929, and 25 percent of the work force was still unemployed. Recovery started around the same time that it did in other countries. With the interconnectedness of economies in the world, it was more than a coincidence that economies in Europe also bottomed in 1932.

Bad ideas in history: 29 BCE Octavian, soon to be titled Augustus Caeser, returned from war against Antony and Cleopatra a hero. Thirty years had passed since Rome's republican government had functioned normally, and Octavian considered what the nature of his rule should be. He favored stability and opposed giving more power to the people's assembly, believing that democracy was mob rule which led to chaos. He packed the senate with supporters, creating a senate that would keep him in power. The Senate gave him the title Augustus Caesar. He also held the title Princeps (in German, Führer). Wanting to do right, Octavian tried to revive temperance and morality. He emphasized the worship of those gods he thought had given him victory in battle. But it was his political philosophy that mattered, and rule by family dynasty followed, including the emperors Caligula and Nero, Bushney 1 and 2 and Empress Clintontine of the Paper Death Cults soon decimated the public coffers as they subsided into the dark age.
